Ten-man Stellenbosch were denied their first victory in the DStv Premiership since the restart after a 1-1 draw against Chippa United on Friday evening.

Stellies made only one change following their Nedbank Cup penalty shootout win over University of Pretoria, as Andre de Jong was recalled in place of Anicet Oura.

Chippa, meanwhile, handed former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Kamohelo Mahlatsi his debut in the line-up, as they brought back their big guns, the likes of goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, Goodman Mosele and Justice Chabalala, following their win over NC Profesionals in the Nedbank Cup.

The Chilli Boys had a bright start as they put the Maroons under pressure and on 17 minutes Malebogo Modise almost opened the scoring with a strike that was saved in the bottom corner by goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke.

The home side only started to get into the game midway into the first stanza and just before the half-hour mark Iqraam Rayners came close with a strike in the box that dragged wide.

United seized momentum after that but they went to the interval 1-0 down after broke the deadlock with a low strike in the box that found the bottom corner.

Stellies started the second stanza on the back foot, as four minutes from the break they were down to ten men after Ismael Toure got a second yellow card and was dismissed.

Chippa started to gain momentum and on 66 minutes, they made an attacking and tactical change as Binevenu Eva Nga replaced Mahlatsi.

Martin quickly got the equaliser for the Chilli Boys just a minute later with a strike in the box from a quick counter-attack.

The game could go either way in the closing stages, as both sides were threatening to get the winner but neither team was clinical as they shared the spoils.

Stellenbosch remained in fourth spot on the log, two points behind third-placed SuperSport United while Chippa were also unchanged in 12th spot, although they moved seven points clear of the relegation zone.
