Polokwane City moved back into the top eight in the DStv Premiership after recording a 1-0 win over Chippa United on Saturday afternoon.

Interestingly, Rise and Shine partnered Ndumiso Mabena in midfield alongside former Kaizer Chiefs man Cole Alexander before Chippa missed the suspended Elmo Kambindu though opted for Bienvenu Eva Nga up top.

The initiative didn’t work against the host who instead made the breakthrough on just five minutes when the self-same Mabena profited from smart penetration play all round.

Chippa, who have had a topsy-turvy campaign to date, looked to find a route back shortly after falling behind but Rise and Shine held a tight line all-round.

In the closing ten minutes to the break, Rise and Shine were required to make a substitution as Alexander couldn’t carry on and had Given Mashikinya take the field.

The Chilli Boys didn’t manage to get a route back ahead of the interval -leaving Rise and Shine in the ascendancy as well as on course to maximum points.

Chippa pulled on a double substitution after halftime in Andile Mbenyane for Brooklyn Poggenpoel and Goodman Mosele ahead of Baraka Majogoro.

The host were expectantly keen to build on their advantage and threw Bafana Bafana international Oswin Appollis on the park in the place of Samuel Nana.

Phuti Mohafe’s men did indeed kept matters calm all-round in a quest to stave off the Chilli Boys despite seeing a few promising moments to add more go astray.

In the end, Rise and Shine ended with the full complement of points and jumped into the top eight leaving the Chilli Boys down the bottom-half bracket.
