Kaizer Chiefs were unable to extend their unbeaten run after suffering a 3-2 defeat to Golden Arrows on Sunday afternoon.

Edmilson Dove was ruled out for a starting berth due to a bout of flu, as Chiefs  coach Arthur Zwane called on Austin Dube to come in for his first league start of the season.

The Amakhosi were off to the perfect start when Sifiso Hlanti attacked a well-weighted corner-kick by Keagan Dolly and headed into the far corner eight minutes on the clock.

The Glamour Boys nearly got a second goal five minutes thereafter where Dolly latched onto a ball over the top and clipped the upright with goalkeeper Siyabonga Mbatha left flat-footed.

Chiefs pushed again before the midway stage where a half-volley on the edge of the area by Siyethemba Sithebe bounced off the top of the net and went into touch.

With the match beginning to balance out, Arrows were forced into a substitution on 33 minutes when Lungelo Dube succumbed to a knock and was replaced for Siyabonga Khumalo.

Abafana Besthende’s confidence were restored and levelled after Ntsako Makhubela combined with Knox Mutziwa and fired in the roof of the net on the stroke of halftime.

Chiefs were back in the lead a minute following the interval with a powerful shot into the near side by Mduduzi Shabalala following a cutback in the box.

Shabalala looked to bag a brace midway through the second half from a curling dink towards the top corner, but he went over from a through pass by Dolly.

Abafana Besthende levelled again inside the last 20 minutes after a first-time pass by Khumalo released Mutizwa on the near side and the Zimbabwean thumped in from a tight angle.

The Amakhosi trailed with 12 minutes to go as Makhubela showed Hlanti a clean pair of heels and cutback to the area to have Mutziwa fire in the bottom-corner as the host struggled to clear their lines.

Arrows managed to hang onto the lead and grabbed the victory to go ninth on the table, with the Amakhosi stuck in fifth spot on the standings.
