Sekhukhune United struck late secure a 1-0 win over Golden Arrows in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday evening.

The embattled host welcomed back Knox Mutizwa, Nqubeko Dlamini and Angelo Van Rooi from the loss to TS Galaxy, with Kamohelo Mokotjo, Chibuike Ohizua, Elias Mokwana restored by the visitors.

Van Rooi’s recall very nearly paid dividends three minutes in when he connected with Siyanda Mthanti’s cross to get a header in, but pulled wide in the end.

Babin Noko turned the screws and drew a fine stop from their opposite number Sifiso Mlungwana, who had to go down to keep out Mokwana’s cleverly worked strike.

It was more of the same for Babina Noko a little in the opening quarter when a certain Ohizu drew space from a smart position around the box before blazing way over the top.

Abafana Besthende showed a change before the half-hour mark, as Nduduzo Sibiya came on for Nhlanhla Zwane in a rather tactical switch-up from Mabhuti Khenyeza.

The host were the stronger of the two ahead of the break and drew a sharp save from Badra Ali Sangare off a fiercely taken effort by Mthanti after good play from Van Rooi.

Ohizu very nearly got the breakthrough just after halftime with a rasping shot from a long way out, but Mlungwana pushed it behind for a corner-kick.

As the closing quarter loomed, both teams upped the ante through a spell of good offensive momentum on either end of the spectrum though the deadlock remained elusive.

Babina Noko left it late though and got the winner when Mokwana managed to catch the host unaware and pounced to see them claim all the points to jump into the top eight.
