Cape Town Spurs boosted their chances of survival in the DStv Premiership after beating TS Galaxy 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs made three changes from their narrow defeat against University of Pretoria in the Nedbank Cup, as Ashley Cupido, Rushwin Dortley and Gabriel Michael were recalled.

Galaxy, on the hand, kept the same side that beat Golden Arrows in the Nedbank Cup,  with the fluid attack of Lehlohonolo, Lindokuhle Mbatha, Higor Vidal and Kamogelo Sebelebele.

The Urban Warriors had a perfect start after Cupido gave them the lead with only 13 minutes on the clock with a strike in the box that found the bottom corner.

The game opened up after that and Spurs grabbed the second goal just before the half-hour mark Katlego Maphathe found the top corner with a strike in the box.

Sead Ramovic rang the changes already with ten minutes left of the first stanza after introducing Samir Nurkovic and Mlungisi Mbunjana to stabilize the side in places of Mbatha and Thato Khiba.

The Rockets threatened after that but they could not test shot-stopper Neil Boshoff and they went to the break trailing by two goals to nil.

Galaxy were spirited from the interval but they were struggling to create clear chances and Nurkovic had a penalty claim on the hour-mark after he went down in the box but he was booked for simulation.

Ernst Middendorp's charges only came to life in the second stanza with 20 minutes to go after introducing the fresh legs of Michael Morton and Orlando Pirates loanee Boitumelo Radiopane.

The writing was on the wall for Galaxy in the dying minutes, as the Urban Warriors sat deep and looked for chances on counter-attacks and in the end clinched only their third win of the season.

Bottom side Spurs closed the gap behind 15th-placed Richards Bay to just three points.
