Stellenbosch FC bagged a third win in four DStv Premiership matches after defeating AmaZulu 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Sede Dion was set out up top for Usuthu, with the hat-trick hero against Golden Arrows in Augustine Kwem surprisingly on the bench, as Stellies restored Sihle Ndluli, Thabo Moloisane and Oura Anicet from their goalless draw at Chippa United.

Dion could’ve made his presence felt on 12 minutes with a perfect chance from a delightful delivery drilled in by Wayde Jooste, but he mis-timed the supply.

After a slow tempo all-round, the Maroons seized the initiative and went in front on the half-hour mark through a decent taken finish from Anicet.

Usuthu did have the chance to go back level immediately through an opening side the area by Celimpilo Ngema, but he couldn’t get the better of Sage Stephens.

More chances in the last seconds ahead of halftime followed the host with Rowan Human taking aim from close-range before blazing way over the top.

Tshepang Moremi was hauled on the park by the home team, who withdrew Human as the second half commenced.

Just like the start of the match, Dion was on the end of chance this time from 12-yards out after a foul on Ramahlwe Mphahlele in the area but he was denied by Stephens.

It became an end-to-end spell in the latter exchanges of the encounter, with both teams having a go at each other but the Maroons stood firm to preserve their lead.

The stuttering momentum from the home team continued though and enjoyed short supply of chances to overturn the contest.

In the end, the Maroons walked away with all the points to get back to winning ways and leapfrog Usuthu into the top eight.
