Chippa United advanced to the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup with a 2-1 victory over ABC Motsepe League side NC Professionals on Sunday afternoon.
Chippa gave a debut goalkeeper Darren Johnson, who was only unveiled on Saturday whilst the stand-out name for the host included former Polokwane City shot-stopper Lehlohonolo Phali.
Moreover, the Chilli Boys weren’t prepared to take things lightly but showed up with the tried and tested such as Luvuyo Memela, Siyabonga Nhlapo, Ronaldo Maarman and Elmo Kambindu notably.
During the mid-season break, Chippa changed coaches and demoted Morgan Mammila to hand Kwanele Kopo and Thao September the reins in a dual capacity.
With the host who ply their trade out in the Northern Cape, the appearance in this tournament were their first-ever and managed to hold their own in the first half.
In the second half, the deadlock continued to be hard to come -giving the top flight more to do than initially anticipated against the amateurs from the lower tier.
Chippa showed more courage and were ahead as the returning Bienvenu Eva Nga fired in the back of the net.
With the home team refusing the throw in the towel, the Chilli Boys added a second to complete the win and in that their spot in the next round of the cup.
