Recently relegated Limpopo side Black Leopards are reportedly in advanced discussions to purchase a rival club's Motsepe Foundation Championship status to remain in the professional ranks.

Lidoda Duvha will be plying their trade in the amateur ranks in the ABC Motsepe League after two relegations in three seasons.

According to well-placed sources in a recent meeting, Leopards chairman David Thidiela informed the club that it would be competing in the second tier of South African football next season.

Rumours are circulating that Leopards have already reached an initial agreement to purchase the status of Cape Town All Stars. With a yet-to-be-named DStv Premiership club is also interested.

“To be honest we don’t know if it’s true or not, we are still waiting for the club to tell us if they have really bought a status,” an insider tells KickOff.

“In our last meeting, they did touch on it, but they didn’t reveal which team they were looking to buy.

“All he said to the team owned by David Thidiela was that his team is going to remain in the PSL.

“He made it clear he is gunning for a DStv Premiership status and if that fails then he will settle for the MFC status.

“So, we are waiting for them to come back to us with full information.”
