REVEALED: Status sale of Free State Stars to be concluded

accreditation

The sale for the status of Mostepe Championship side Free State Stars has been submitted to the PSL for approval, KickOff can confirm.

Free State Stars is most famous for winning the 1994 Coca-Cola Cup and more recently, the 2018 Nedbank Cup.

The Bethlehem-based club is understood to have been under financial strain since its relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship (formerly GladAfrica Championship) in 2019. The buyer has been confirmed to be the owner of ABC Motsepe Foundation side Casric FC, Bucs Mthombeni.

Once approved, the sale will likely see Free State Stars renamed to 'Casric FC' and the team relocated.

The success of the deal will also effectively leave the Free State province without a representative in the professional ranks of South African football, following the sale and renaming of Bloemfontein Celtics last year.
