South African football legend Mlungisi 'Professor' Ngubane pleads with football fans to make the Carling Knockout final a sold-out affair.

The final, scheduled for 16 December 2023 at Moses Mabhida Stadium, will see two of the Premier Soccer League's most stubborn clubs fight for the brand new trophy.

Whoever wins the final will enter the history books as the first club to be engraved on the Carling trophy.

There are fears and concerns though that the final might be played in front of empty stands as both TS Galaxy FC and Stellenbosch FC don't enjoy much support.

But Ngubane says this is one final football lovers should not miss out on because it will be contested by two in-form teams.

"If people want to witness good football they must go to Moses Mabhida and watch TS Galaxy and Stellenbosch FC," Ngubane tells KickOff.

"These two teams are playing good football at the moment, and they have no big names in their squads. These two sets of players are going there to prove that finals are not (only) for big teams. That is my opinion," he said.

"Both these teams are not there by fluke. They are there because of playing good football. People must start learning how to support football and not only their clubs. Their clubs disappointed them by not making it into the final, and the clubs that play good football will be contesting the final.

"We must go in numbers and support whichever team we want to support on the day. That stadium needs to be filled to show that our people understand the game. Let’s show sportsmanship.

"We must do for football what we recently did for the Springboks," he added.
