With a medal finish Bafana have now moved up the latest FIFA rankings.
Bafana have climbed up eight places to 58 in the world and 10th on the continent as per the prediction by this website a few days ago.
This is now Bafana’s best ranking in seven years.
When Hugo Broos took over from Molefi Ntseki as the national team coach in May 2021, Bafana Bafana were in tatters and ranked 75.
The Belgian has slowly but surely repaired the damage he found despite all the bullets of unjustified criticism that he has taken in going through his duties.
With a third-place finish in Cote d’Ivoire achieved against a background of having arrived at the tournament ranked 12 on the continent, Bafana have earned their place in the top 10.
They overcame the top ranked nation at the tournament Morocco on their way to the semi-finals.

Bafana’s best ranking since 2016 has been position 60 in the world while the worst was 81 in 2017.
They went up to position 52 in 2015.
The best ranking ever achieved was in 1996 when the senior national team went up as high as 16th after winning the AFCON on home soil.
