The most recent transfer window saw a number of expensive signings, we take a look at the European club who pays the highest salaries. Check it out!

What Happened?

In the 2022/23 season only, football clubs from the top leagues spent an eye-watering €5.7 billion (R110 billion) on transfers, almost 50 percent more than seasons more.

While spending a fortune on players, they also give hundreds of millions each month to players.

According to data coming from Sport Lens, Paris Saint-Germain tops the list of European football clubs with €6.71 million (R129 million) average player salary in season 2022/23.

The ballers earns massive sums of money in wages and sponsorship deals. The salaries at the top have only risen in recent years, especially after the entrance of multinational corporations, oligarchs, and oil states as club owners.

Today, annual payrolls of Europe`s top-flight clubs are worth hundreds of millions of euros, with the figures growing each season.

Despite their popularity being incomparable to the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid, or Liverpool when it comes to revenue, Paris Saint-Germain paid the highest average salary to players this season.

According to Capology, the Ligue 1 club had an average net wage of €6.71 million (R129 million), far more than any other European football club.

Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are among the highest paid players in the club.

The Frenchman earns a gross €1.3 million (R25 million) a week while Messi rakes in gross weekly salary of €1.2 million (R23 million).

Europe's largest clubs generate hundreds of millions of euros in revenue each year, their annual and weekly expenses for player salaries are still shocking.

The stats show that PSG`s weekly payroll amounts to over €4 million (R77 million), almost double that of Manchester City or Chelsea, and more than a jaw-dropping €208 million (R4 billion) for the entire year.
