A 48-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly murdering her 18-year-old son.

It's alleged the suspect cut off the victim's head from the body. The shocking incident occurred in Leshikishiki Village in Lebowakgomo on Friday, 3 May.

Police spokesman in Limpopo, Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said upon arrival at the scene next to a local tavern, they found the lifeless body of an 18-year-old man lying on a wheelchair and his head on the ground.

Shockingly, there was no one on the scene.

"Police commenced with initial investigations, and the deceased's mother was located. After thorough investigation, the mother was positively linked to the murder of her son and arrested," Mashaba said.

Beyond disability, an organisation advocating for the rights of people living with disability condemned in the strongest terms this incident.

The organisation's chairman Solomon Ramoaka said it was the first time for her to hear of such a gruesome crime levelled against a person with a disability.

"This incident shocked us. It's for the first time we hear reports of a heinous crime of this nature levelled against a vulnerable person," he said.
