LEGENDARY maskandi group Imithente will once again be performing abroad after more than a decade of hoping.
The group, which was founded in 1993, performed in many overseas countries when its founder Simosakhe Mthalane was still alive.
Although the group scooped top awards, including the Samas after Mthalane's death in 2010, it only performed in Mzansi.
On Thursday 9 May, the group flew to France, where they will perform as part of a cultural exchange programme in Paris. They will also perform in Turin, Italy.
The Simqonda Ngqo hitmakers will be back in Mzansi on Tuesday 14 May.
Group leader Dumisile Mthalane, widow of Simosakhe, said going overseas after many years was a great.
"The last time we travelled overseas was when Simosakhe was still alive. After his death chances of us going overseas to perform vanished. The fact that we're getting this opportunity again encourages us to work ever harder to entertain fans at home and abroad,” Dumisile said.

She said the group is focusing on performances because their music is no longer selling like before.
"Times have changed. Selling music doesn’t make money as it used to when we sold CDs. The opportunity to perform abroad is encouraging."
She said when Simosakhe Mthalane was alive, the group performed in the US, United Arab Emirates, Belgium and India, among other countiries.
Imithente follows other maskandi stars the likes of Mbuzeni, Qadasi & Maqhinga and others who perform overseas.
