Percy Tau magic goes viral in Egypt

Bafana Bafana striker Percy Tau's influence in Egypt is on the rise as evidenced by viral footage of the Al Ahly basketball team imitating the speedy striker's trademark celebration.

Footage of Al-Ahly Basketball team captain Seif Samir imitating Tau's trademark celebration after picking up the league trophy is making the rounds on social media, showcasing the South African's rising popularity in North Africa.

"It's a celebration from South Africa that I used to do from my church, the church I used to go to when I was in South Africa. I just twisted to make it a bit [more] fun," Tau told Brighton's media back in 2021, explaining the origins of the celebration.

Of course, the attacker's rising popularity is with merit for his his on-field performances, Tau has been in sensational form for the Red Devils this season, despite missing a huge chuck of the season to injury.

Since his return to action, tau has been arguably AL Ahly's most important player. His four goals and four assists mean Tau has the more direct goal contributions than an other player in the Champions League this season.

Tau's Al Ahly will face Esperance in a second leg semi-final tie of the Champions League on Friday night. The Bafana international scored a brace in the first encounter between the two teams that ended 3-0 to Al Ahly in their first-leg encounter.

Kick-off is at 21:00.
