Warri Wolves FC is based in the oil-rich city of Warri and are owned by the Delta State government. The club was first founded in 1967 by Bernard Baro Bakpa, but was taken over by the Nigeria Ports Authority, who renamed the club after their corporation, NPA FC. The club relocated to Lagos in 2003 as a result of violence in the city of Warri. In April 2007, the Delta State government reached an agreement with NPA to take over the club and renamed them Warri Wolves. Following heavy investments, Wolves gained instant promotion to the Premier League and have since remained consistent in the Premier League, twice qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup.
