Egypt qualified for the Confederations Cup after a successful defence of their African Nations Cup title – beating Cameroon in the Final in Ghana. After topping Group C, the Pharaohs scraped past Angola in the quarters, before thrasing Ivory Coast 4-1 in the last four. Having beaten Cameroon 4-2 during the group stages, Egypt found the going a bit tougher in the Final, needing a Rigobert Song error with 15 minutes to go to secure a sixth Nations Cup title.
