Ghana captain Stephen Appiah. Ghana bring second string sideGhana bring weakened sidePosted: 2008-10-14 06:46 Ghana is set to feature a second string team when they play Bafana Bafana in an international friendly in Bloemfontein tomorrow. The Black Stars arrived in Johannesburg yesterday without most of their regular overseas-based players.Notable absentees in their squad are the England-based duo of goalkeeper Richard Kingson and defender John Pantsil along with Italy-based midfielder Sulley Muntari and striker Asamoah Gyan. Other absentees in the four- times African Cup of Nations champions include Andre Ayew, John Mensah, Quincy Owusu-Abeyie and Junior Agogo. Skipper Stephen Appiah remains the most capped player in the Ghana senior squad that touched down at the OR Tambo International airport. Kaizer Chiefs defender Jonathan Quartey is also included in the Ghanaian squad to face Bafana Bafana. Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana has managed to retain all their regular and overseas-based players including Aaron Mokoena, Benni McCarthy, Siyabonga Nkosi, Bryce Moon and Nasief Morris.
Recent Comments: 54doink: 2008-10-14 07:23 bafana should win 10goals to zero then. a weak side like this.....even namibia/botswana can win against this ghana side Phakz: 2008-10-14 07:29 Gone are the days when every African country used respect Mzansi.... motshwari: 2008-10-14 07:31 My current commment may sound irrelevant to the story above but I wish to say that, while South Africa is busy preparing itself for the 2010 World cup I take issue with the fact that through qualifications to the next phase of AFCON and World cup COSAFA, our regional soccer body, has only produced Zambia by distinction, Mozambique and Malawi through best runners up and Angola by default of being the AFCON hosts. I'm a bit concerned that our regional body seems not to be getting things right, as if they ever got them right any way. For quite some time we've only moved one step forward, that is to reduce the number of goals that the North African teams score when they beat us, we dont get 7-0 beatings but we still get beaten anyway. I therefore would like to call upon Bo-Rre Mamelodi and collegues to assist the regional soccer associations in moving to a different pedestal, we are tired of supporting North African teams at major soccer tournaments, it happened at almost all World Cups and Olympics, I think they now have to tell this whole region what they intend doing from now on otherwise we have to engage the North African guys to come for our rescue. Countries like Zimbabwe, Angola and South Africa are just too big to be beaten by bo-Rwanda and the like. I stand to be corrected my fellow Africans! Soccer Critic ( Tivani ): 2008-10-14 07:52 They should have been sent under23 to play Bafana. lish: 2008-10-14 07:57 S.A. should start to treat every match as cup game coz if we are failing to beat second teams like Ghana what about the likes of Brazil, Italy...we have to set out sight higher and challenge better teams than these second teams coz we are not going to gain any thing from these second team.... mkhize: 2008-10-14 07:59 This goes to show that S. A. is nothing anymore in terms of World football. Even if they can win the game, they are still not playing the best sides in the world. If Ghana can take a second string side to S. A., what about the likes of Brazil, Italy, England etc. It means they will sent their under 21 sides to play us. We are nothing more than a joke and our team is gonna embarase us come 2010. Patriosm se foet. lish: 2008-10-14 08:00 SAFA should spend a lot of money on organising world champs such as Egypt,Italy,Brazil, Portugal, etc...we have to get away from these minor clubs coz we are not improving at all Wonder: 2008-10-14 08:00 That is exactly why i laughed when i heard Raymond Hack saying maybe to loose out on the ACN 2010 in Angola was a blessing in disguise. while our team will be sweating it out, the other team will just be going through the emotions and not really give us a test. next time, Think before you Speak HACK! Proffessor : 2008-10-14 08:07 This is just sh!t.... why we keep on playin' these contries as they r bringin' useless players. rather play 3rd side of Russia, Spain, Brazil, USA, Germany, Holland, Argentina, Greeece than these African contries who gonna send small boys. Where is the competition here? i wont watch this crap game - tied of wastin' my time. i'll rather play my playstation wit my friend Mdu. nx!!!!!!!!!! OBG: 2008-10-14 08:13 Raymond hack is only good when attacking his useless counterpart SABC and demanding explanation. He must also explain to the nation why he failed to negotiate with Ghana to bring their string squad? I hate Hack. Bashin: 2008-10-14 08:40 Ghana unlike S.A there is no such thing as a second string team, watch the game tommorow and you will see what i mean. Tanaz: 2008-10-14 08:41 Fire the bafana coach. for me we allways talk of experience santana have none when it comes to national teams. he is here to learn. we are sendind our team with a zero experience coach to compete with teams lead by proffessors of footbal. don blame the players. they are selected, they don select themselves. ,,The Game,,: 2008-10-14 08:49 TANAZ,,WELCOME BROER,,,,WHAT'S YO FAV. Proffessor : 2008-10-14 09:25 Maestro: Prof or something... ,,The Game,,: 2008-10-14 09:31 GHANA,,,TOO HAVE PLAYERS WHO WOULD HAVE TAKEN THIS GAME NOT THAT 'SERIOUS'...I FEEL IT'S RIGHT AND WOULD BENEFIT BAFANA THAT THEY BROUGHT SOME OF THE HUNGRY GUYS WHO WILL WANT TO IMPRESS THEIR COACH,,,,SO GUYS DON'T EXPECT A GOOD SQUAD ON PAPER,,,BUT GET A BORING, VERY CAUTIOUS, SLOW GAME....THESE GHANAIANS WILL GO ALL THE WAY TO S.A,,,IT'S UP TO US TO MOTIVATE THE LIKES OF BENNI,,,TO BE A BIT CONSIDERATE ABOUT THIS GAME,,,,ANYWAYS IT'S A FRIENDLY GAME,,,GHANA HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE BUT S.A MUST MAKE SURE THEY WIN THIS ONE,,,,WINS CAN BOOST OUR CONFIDENCE (FANS), COACH'S CONFIDENCE, PLAYERS' CONFIDENCE,,,,,SAFA, TECHNICAL TEAM,,,,, Proffessor : 2008-10-14 09:37 The Game - sies man!MOTIVATE THE LIKES OF BENNI... pls man. ikhehla uBenni & Mokena. Hayi baba! this is nt a team we must motivate... if it was walaza, klate, mashango, khune & more i was gonna motivate the team. not these useless players... com 2010 they wont be playin' as well. Mr Que: 2008-10-14 09:37 What new Mr Mr Que: 2008-10-14 09:39 This is anarchy please SAFA must stop this rather play Mozambique first team then this GHANA B team, Mr Que: 2008-10-14 09:44 If Benni starts on the bench he will quit Bafana until they promise him to always start the game if he is available ,he is just a selfish bustard that why Mr Simphiwe Tshabalala is far better than Benni because if he out of form he is still a team player supporting from the bench and no complain we should release Benni for good. ,,The Game,,: 2008-10-14 09:50 They should have released some of the players (overseas based) and bring some fresh blood for this game,,,,but the Technical Team was expecting a very strong team from Ghana,,,,but motivating the likes of Benni is a hurdle.....hey it never rains but pours for South Africa... Nathi: 2008-10-14 10:03 Cha iyasjwayela iGHANA isilethela i second stream,we shud xspect i draw or 1 nil to Ghana..ake nisho u Benni wayedlala yiphi i position datyme sidlala ne Equitoral Guinea..kowaziyo mack masene: 2008-10-14 10:12 south african soccer has for the past yrs seen something that one can call a performance recession, but with positivity we shall prosper Dikotsi: 2008-10-14 10:15 The Game, i agree with you this time. We need to keep bafana playing since we need that combinations to get going. Ghana boys will be hungry to beat SA since everybody seems to be doing it these days. Dikotsi: 2008-10-14 10:21 Guys i think we should start to be positive about ourselves despite our shortcomings. Proff, you are misleading everybody with your kak comment about people not going to stadia...that is not positive and unpatriotic..just short of treason. Bashin: 2008-10-14 10:34 Proffessor this is Proffessional football baba so please stop with you SA minded mentality of Second Stream teams and B teams as long as you payed to kick a ball you in a A team for me. It was proven by Chiefs with Sundowns Italy on Bafana. Bashin: 2008-10-14 10:36 Tell the Second Strem team at Pirates, Sundowns, Chiefs, Swallows, Ajax, SSU, even Thanda does not have one. Proffessor : 2008-10-14 10:41 Bashin: u r lost my brother. Proffessor : 2008-10-14 10:44 I still disagree with u and Dikosti – why r they given us a 2nd team! Rather play European 3rd string. I’m not happy… the competition is way weak! Even if they win 4-0 or 5-0. the competition is what makes u strong… the players… not nobodies. U think that Chiefs 2nd string can beat Sundowns again? NEVER! That was a friendly game (Telkom charity cup) Bashin: 2008-10-14 10:52 no ways Proff. ,,The Game,,: 2008-10-14 11:07 NATHI: ,,The Game,,: 2008-10-14 11:19 .....Guys the AFCON is around the corner, the World Cup also knocking at the door,,,for all the Ghana selected players,,,this is one of the opportunity for them to shine, and attain their dreams of playing in these tournaments,,,I'm telling you guys,,,Ghana is going to be more organised, determined than Bafana Bafana,,,,but let's support our guys and maybe we can after the game,,,have something positive to say.....winning away from home was just one of the achievements,,,which I think we don't acknowledge,,,if we continue putting good performance,,,we can build from that confidence,,,, Marlon: 2008-10-14 14:44 People must stop listening to Reporters and think for themselves. Yes this Ghana team is without most of their star players BUT this B team as you call it is very useful and competitive. If you search on most of these Ghanian team members you will find that most were in the squad for AFCON 2008. Also some of the players play in Europe or are on the verge of joining a European team. The SA squad is also a big team and Santana can use our B team against this team. If our A team played against Guinea then this will be our B team against Ghana B. KaMashobana: 2008-10-14 15:43 For sure , who in his right mind would bring a full strength squad to play Bafazi Bafazi in a friendly! This nonsense about Safa braging that "we have lined friendly games against the best .....". Forget it,we will be fighting it against development players. We would be luck if some of the "best" bring in their under-23s. Copyright 2007 KICKOFF.com | 2008-10-14 06:46
