“Whenever Nigeria qualifies, I am happy,” says Mr Jack Warner, FIFA Vice President, “but today they qualified for the World Cup in the worst match I have ever seen them play.” Mr Warner was speaking to media during a reception organised at the residence of the Australian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Jeff Hart.

Mr Warner disclosed that he was sad at the standard of play displayed by the Super Eagles, adding, “I hope that having qualified, they will be able to improve themselves in time for the 2010 [World Cup in South Africa].” He congratulated all Nigerians whom, he said, view football as a religion, an described the country as being ‘on a high’. “Having qualified for the World Cup and playing in the finals of the Under-17, what else can Nigerians hope for?” he enthused.

The FIFA Vice President, who arrived the country on Friday night for the Under-17 finals at the National Stadium, Abuja, today, spoke on the organisation of the Under-17 tournament, which he said is “not first class, but nothing major went wrong.”

Present at the reception was the Chief Executive Officer of the Football Federation of Australia, Mr Ben Buckley, who is mobilising support for Australia’s bid for the 2018 or 2022 World Cup.

i get really frustrated knowing that da NFF are not gettin a technical adviser for this skumm displayd up here. do we hav to wait until we get booted out of nations cup at the group stages or QTR finals for the NFF to decide we need a foreign technical adviser. i am not sayin we sack him but provide him and da country an experienced coach. Ok now da word is spreading that we cant get MANCINI OR HIDDINK, whut happened to MARCO VAN BASTEN, JURGEN KLINNSMAN,GERARD HOULLIER ETC. these guyz hav been tested especially VAN BASTEN AND HOULLIER. If a new technical adviser takes charge with amodu as coach we will b good 2 BANG TEAMS UP. But it looks like NFF r gettin ****Y BCUZ DEY MAN QUALIFIED US AGAINST ALL ODDS. Pls NFF 140mln people cannot be wrong at the same time,or bring an outsider(a non Nigerian) he will say the same----our eagles under Amodu perform far below average yet the team is comprised of quality players,then tell me what's wrong? I'm not talking of technical input this time b/c I believe that even without Coach we should be able beat the likes of Kenya any day if the right players are selected but Amodu's presence is causing more harm as he is tied with the likes of Olofin...,Yakubu,E.T.C. Leave Amodu in this seat and he'll go to the World arena without Martins,Obasi,Taiwo,Ayinlla,Odiah e.t.c for reasons I don't want to guess. Lets be frank, Martins for instance gets 70000pounds a wk. & his Boss(Amodu) recieves $15000 a month(which is his standard) nothing will work. To impact the necessary discipline in the team,the boys require a boss far bigger than them in all aspects! No favouritism,no fear of the players bribbing their way and most of all a coach who knows that his reputation is at stake if he fails(not Vogts).If Hiddink fails there are others!!!

dear forumites, please let's respect and rever Amodu. He has done what 'the almighty' Hiddink cannot do. Hiddink failed to take Russia with their stars and good FA to the mundial. I listened to Amodu's interview on BBC today and i was impressed. He seems to know more than people think he knows. people say he cant read matches, but if Amodu cant read a match, cant Fatai Amoo(who i respect alot) read matches? Amokachi and Alloy Agu are more than capable. there's only one thing lacking in Super Eagles, and that is CONFIDENCE. we played France and we easily could have beaten them 3-0.

I'm not an Amodu fan. I had always preferred Samson Siasia or Sunday Oliseh to Amodu. I don't subscribe to us having a foreign coach. If we must have a foreign coach then it must be a world class coach that must be ready to live in Nigeria and watch our local league. I doubt whether Hiddink or Van Basten or Klinsmann would want to make home in Nigeria just like Cappello in England. If this is not possible then damn the foreign coaches.

Amodu has done for us what even Clemens Westerhof couldn't do i.e. qualify Nigeria for two world cups. Let's allow Amodu to reap from where he has sown. He is yet to loose a competitive game for Nigeria. We may not be playing well now but we shall bounce back in style.

My advise to Amodu however, is to pick only fit players. We are behind you!

We sacked Trousier and brought a 'world cup coach' in Bora Milutinovic and was disgraced by Denmark. 2002, the same Amodu qualified us to the world cup; he was not only maligned as some pple are doing now but was also sacked and replaced with the local high chief from Modakeke and at the end of the day, we had the most disastrous outing in the world cup; just scoring a single goal.
We employed a 'high profile' coach in the person of Vogts to the last nations cup and was lucky to scale through the knockout stage before we ran out of luck. Why don't we learn to appreciate what we have for once and stop this nonsense of craving for a white-skin trained guinea pigs who are just coming to milk us dry of tax payers salary by collecting huge salaries.
I would have been more elatedif the people crying for Amodu's sack and replacing him with a whiteman could for once raise their voices and ask for whitemen to take over the leadership of this country also, may be then the country would be better to live in. to everybody that is clamouring for Amodu's sack, MAY YOU NEVER LIVE TO ENJOY THE FRUIT OF YOUR LABOUR!!! for the bible says that the husbandman should be the first partaker of his fruit and that the labourer is entitled to his wages. @Ajibola, those for our against AMODU are all in the interest of a better SE. nobody is happy seeing the super eagles play badly or wombling and fumbling, however we have to take heart that the team arent loosing which is very important character.
Last night i saw wigan lose woefully to spurs 9-1 but earlier in the season, wigan defeated league leaders chelsea 3-1. Football is a game, and on your day you can play well and on a bad day in office you can play woefully. What matters is to develop a level of consistency.... much has the SE has not been playing well, they have maintained a consistent result of not loosing, slowly they will step up to playing well and winning beautifully. All we need to do is keep supporting them, stand by the team and the technical crew, encourage them and they will surely deliver.

@danarchy, good comments as ever, only if those who are against AMODU will see reasons with you.

I dont really think the reasons why most people are sympathetic with AMODU is just for him to reap the fruit of his labour, afterall he has a salary while working. It is also true that Coaches job is one of hire and fire so its not gonna be the first time such will happen.

The fact remains that there hasn't been any justtification for his sack by the so call antagonists. The issue most people have raised has been that of his lack of technical and tactical approach to the game. I do not agree to this outrightly, much as the eagles have not been playing fanciful football, the team hase exhibited some character of not loosing. Chelsea under morinho were quite boring but they won almost everything available, ever since they started playing the good football, how many trophies have they won?
****nal remains the most entertaining side in the world yet for nearly 5 years, they have been without a major trophy.
Brazil was glamorous to watch in the 70's and 80's but they couldnt win the world cup with their array of stars untill 1994 and then 2002.
Italy won the 2006 world cup without really playing well but as rugged as ever. Good football doesnt transcend to good results always so if AMODU's approach is to get result no matter how it is gotten, we need not cry blue.

This debate will take us no where, i still maintaih that we need to start fashioning the way for the team to grow from strength to strength and changing the gaffer often or criticizing every thing about the team is not a way to achieving the desired success.

Some fools who do not know what technical ability is when they see one think they have the right to judge Amodu who has peoduced results. Amodu is working with what he has. World class coach Berti Vogts went to Ghana with the same eagles and they did not make it far. The fact remains that the eagles play like big men, they do not hustle and lack determination. This attitude is been going on for a while. Football is a simple game,it does not require a brain surgeon to manage it.The players make the game and not the coaches.

Anybody who watched South Korea at the 2002 mundial will no that there was no a single known star in that team. But they rode comfortably to the semifinals spanking anyone that came their way including Portugal.
Go watch the 3rd place match again and see what happened in the last 25mins. Turkey practicall had 9 players defending throughout. Rustu their keeper had so much shots to stop that he had to change gloves.
That's Hiddink for you people. No other coach does things like that in times like that.

I still dont understand why people forget how difficult it is to win a football game afterwards. The perfect way for the Super Eagles is to respond after a disappointing world cup qualifiers is to give great result, that is where you judge a big team and that is what we want them to do in Angola.

mega,South Korea used Home advantage and not really the hindink factor, if you ever played football with all your fans behind you, you will know what home advantage could do sometimes.

Hindink no doubt is a good coach, but there is no assurance that contracting him now will help us win the nations cup or world cup nor even make the super eagles play well. He will need time and the time is not now.

If we need to employ a TA, i guess its better after the world cup and we start planning for 2014.

There are people who want him sacked, others want him retained while some want to see him helped by a technical adviser in areas where he is obviously lacking knowledge.

Let it be known that European and South American nations do fall before African coaches at the World Cup, even if they do not win it all.
