After completing his youth career at ASC Remire, Florent Malouda began his football profession with Chateauroux in 1996. He was at Guincamp from 2000-03 and joined Lyon until 2007, when he signed with Premier League side Chelsea, disappointing many a top team, including Liverpool and Real Madrid in the process. He had played four seasons with the French champions, scoring 25 League goals. In his first game for Chelsea, a pre-season friendly against Mexican side Club America, Malouda scored the equaliser and set up John Terry for the winning goal as Chelsea prevailed 2-1. He has been part of the French national side since 2004 and was part of both the 2006 World Cup and Euro 2008 squads. He made his international debut on 17 November 2004 against Poland and subsequently became a regular in the side, playing a key role in France's progress to the World Cup final in 2006.
