Serero joined Ajax Amsterdam from Ajax Cape Town in May 2011, after helping the Urban Warriors to a second-place League finish with 11 goals from midfield.
He had a difficult first season in Holland, but had a storming start to this campaign, scoring three times in four matches. A torn groin muscle called a halt to his progress, however, and he was ruled out of action until January.
Ajax are now expecting the 22-year-old to recover sooner, and he may be fit in time for the Africa Cup of Nations.
