Modise was named South African Footballer of the Year for 2008 and 2009 and was the 27th player to captain Bafana Bafana.

He was first chosen for the experimental Cosafa Castle Cup side for the Group B tournament in Swaziland in May 2007 and is the fastest player to reach 50 caps.

He played at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations Cup, 2009 Confederations Cup and 2010 World Cup, but has seen a dip in national team form since.

He signed for SuperSport United from City Pillars in mid-2006, although he had made his PSL debut four years earlier at Ria Stars, but then disappeared from the top-flight.

He was voted best player in the First Division in 2006 and moved to Orlando Pirates in 2007 after one season with SuperSport United.

He then made a move to Mamelodi Sundowns in January 2011.
