John Paintsil is a Ghanaian defender began his career in Ghana with Berekum Arsenal and Liberty Professionals, before making a brief switch to Polish side Widzew Lodz. From there he transferred to Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2002 and was a member of their side to win the Israeli league title, before, in December 2004, he moved to city rivals Hapoel Tel Aviv. Paintsil signed for West Ham in August 2006 but after a lack of first team opportunities, he moved to Fulham along with fellow West Ham player Bobby Zamora for a combined fee of GBP 6.3 million in July 2008. Paintsil made his international debut in 2001 and played in each of Ghana's games at the 2006 World Cup finals.
