Sangweni signed with Orlando Pirates from Golden Arrows at the beginning of 2011/12, and was hailed as one of the best signings of the season, playing an instrumental defensive role as the Buccaneers won the Treble.

Sangweni also has a reputation for scoring vital goals. He scored on debut against Santos in the MTN8 to send Bucs through, hit the net against Bloemfontein Celtic and Arrows in the League title clinching final two games, and got a late winner in the Last 16 of the Nedbank Cup.

Sangweni won a first call-up in an experimental Bafana squad for the Cosafa Castle Cup mini-tournament in Swaziland in May 2007, but became a regular for Bafana at the beginning of 2010, although he did not feature at the World Cup.

The physical centre-back is an excellent reader of the game with good aerial ability. He scored his first Bafana goal from a corner in a 1-1 draw with Bulgaria in May 2010.

His younger brother Thamsanqa Sangweni plays for AmaZulu and has one Bafana cap.
