He represented South Africa at the 2009 Under-20 World Cup in Egypt, and made his Bafana debut against Zimbabwe in January 2010.

Jali was named in the preliminary 30-man squad for the World Cup, but a mild heart condition ruled him out of the tournament.

He scored his first international goal in a 2-1 loss away to Niger in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in 2011.

'Gatuso' is known for his fiery personality on the pitch, and for his partnership with Oupa Manyisa in the Bucs' midfield, which has been instrumental to the club's recent success.
