Elrio Van Heerden began his professional career with FC Copenhagen's youth academy in his home-town, and in 2002 travelled to Denmark to hone his skills. He made his debut for the first-team against AaB two years later and spectacularly scored the equaliser moments before the final whistle. In 2006 Van Heerden was scooped up by Belgium outfit Club Brugge, making 67 appearances and netting twice. Then in 2009, Rovers manager Sam Allardyce announced he had completed his first signing of the summer, with the player putting pen to a two-year deal at Ewood Park. He has since moved to Sivasspor on loan from Blackburn.
