Sibaya was the 28th player to captain South Africa and had an outstanding World Cup in South Korea and Japan in 2002, a performance he repeated at the 2009 Confederations Cup.

He was sold by Jomo Cosmos shortly after the 2002 World Cup for R4-million to Rosenborg of Norway, where he won the Norwegian League.

But soon he was on the move again, joining Russian provincial club Rubin Kazan, with whom he won the 2008 and 2009 Russian League titles.

He was chosen for the 2004 African Nations Cup finals squad for the tournament in Tunisia, but returned home early after the death of his brother and then refused to return to compete.

However, he remained part of the national squad even after the death of his father prior to the Nations Cup qualifier with Congo in September, 2006.

He also played once for the South African Under-23 side.
