Now a regular fixture in the Spanish national team, Fabregas’ international career begun at the 2003 Fifa Under-17 Championships in Finland.

He finished as top scorer, despite playing in midfield, and was voted Player of the Tournament. In March 2006 he was called up to the senior national squad and became the youngest debutant for 70 years.

He went on to play in the 2006 World Cup and became the youngest Spanish player to do so, aged 19 years and 41 days.
