Mercurially talented but constantly failing to deliver on the big stage, Ricardo Quaresma arrived at Chelsea in January 2009, on loan from Inter Milan, where he had fallen out of favour with former Blues manager Jose Mourinho. Quaresma had a disappointing spell with Barcelona early in his career before joining FC Porto in 2004. He stayed there for four years before moving to Inter in 2008, but Mourinho was not impressed with the player and left him out of his Champions League knock-out squad. He has since returned to Inter, but has still not found favour with the manager. He made his senior international debut against Bolivia in a friendly in June 2003, and despite being a crucial member of the team that qualified for the World Cup in 2006, he was left out of the tournament squad by Luiz Felipe Scolari. He scored his first goal for the national side in March 2007 in a Euro Qualifier against Belgium.
