'Work has just begun' - Vlad

Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic was understandably delighted with his side’s Vodacom Challenge Final victory over Manchester City on Saturday, but says “the work has only just begun”.

A goal from Jeffrey Ntuka in the closing stages of the first half gave Chiefs the trophy they last won in 2006 when they beat City’s rivals, Manchester United, in the Final

“It was a great game, we are honoured to play two games against Man City in one week, especially when you see the quality of the players they had on the field,” Vermezovic says.

“This tournament was very important for us, but our work has just begun. This was a good test for us, the main point being that we wanted to build the fitness of our players. But I think the fans enjoyed the experience.”

City manager Mark Hughes was magnanimous in defeat, once again reiterated the club were delighted with their time in South Africa.

“I would like to congratulate Chiefs, I thought they played exceptionally well today,” Hughes says. “We had quite a lot of possession, but they restricted us to just few chances and they are worthy winners of the trophy. We wish them well in the coming season.

“For us it has been a fantastic trip, we have made a lot of friends and we have really enjoyed every aspect of your [South Africans] life. We hope to come back soon.”

Menkel: 2009-07-25 19:21

Our coach is fantastic!

The way he exchanges players is interesting, for sure he will find the right combination, each an every player get his chance.

Like Josta and David have claim their places, Josta is marvel to watch in the middle of the park.

With Shaba coming back, its hard for the coach who is going to be taken out,

Nhleko shows what is he capable of, Torrelable and Nale have to lift up their socks,Masango was less given a chance by Mushin, I think its his year to mesmarize the opponents.

Our defence looks good, Mbooi has to keep time when marking, Ntuka shows that he want to play,Im a bit confused about the left back position,Jambo or Masanamela, becos Jambo make sure when marking,Masanamela is more in attacking,

Molekwana is doing a good job, I knew when he came in that Robinho will have a problem.

HUNE FOR ARM BAND NEXT SEASON!

Fantastic coach. I was very impressed by George Lebese n Mandla Masango. Watch out for these young boys this season. I also like the way "VV" gives all the players a chance to show what they r capable of. Watch out 'bomakhalanjalo' n 'sunflops' we r on a warpath! Shapa khosi... Shapa!!!

my team pirates will seemingly never grasp the importance of winning silverware. instead they waste time with useless PR like new jersey launches. win sumthing for crying out loud, sustain tht habit and stop accepting this mediocrity of calling yoselvs a big tim and yet u remain trofiless fr so many seasons. congrats Khosi, the SA name is gradually etched on the global futbol thru such sterling perfomncs

mzoe: 2009-07-26 05:11

Where are all those who were spewing bile earlier on? What has suddenly happened to ur verbal diarrhea? R u remedied of ur trash talking syndrome? Does this quench ur thirst for attention seeking? Khosi Shuts All Mouths Man! VV is turning out to be a really good coach, sorry I ever doubted.

Jacob/Styles: 2009-07-26 07:46

Well done Chiefs as a Pirate supporter i'm delighted as well for this victory, as it presents SA soccer. VV has made his detractors to eat a big fat humble pie including a bigger section of Chiefs suppoters.

This was a good pre-season tournament for Khosi, however i still maintain what i said previously that we should not read too much from pre-season games. The big test is still coming. Believe it or not i hate to pick form early as this season will be demanding judging by the number of games to be played in a week. Nonetheless congrats Kaizer Chiefs you did us proud.

Jacob/Styles: 2009-07-26 07:49

Eish! b4 i 4get to ask Mzukisi what is going on in your mind? Man be a real man and congratulate Chiefs for this famous win. Please jealous down my man. Howzit?

Dikotsi: 2009-07-26 09:14

Chiefs has picked up form early and most will say blah blah blah! and remind us of lat year. The big difference this year is that we have backup, and mighty good back p. Your Issacs, Shabba etc have not played. Left and rigth back is complimented very well. Midfield is good. Strikers will be fighting for a first berth. We lack knowhere this year and this is a championship winning team. No guarantees. Well done Bobby..le ha o pota sometimes...Chiefs is balanced..I love this team.

Zithobele Patrick: 2009-07-26 09:30

Jacob u're a true soccer Fan.Isn't the 1st time i've seen Chips flatter to deceive&fail to perform when it matter da most. They always perform during the pre-season tournaments&lose focus during the League campaign. So to u all Chimpz Fans celebrate whilst u can coz the proper teamz coming to coz u endless pains.,starting with TCC next weekend.

Paul maake : 2009-07-26 09:42

Viva makhosi,we hv shwm tht we dnt rely on 1 player at ol,we cn change the whole of the starting ˇx bt stl deliver the results, once again shapa makhosi shapa maan

Zithobele Patrick: 2009-07-26 09:51

Sbu do u think beating City is da big deal? When last did City won a cup? This team to me is just like FSS,COSMOS,ETC.It just adds numbers on that League there..So guys pls stop shouting out so loud, just focus on ur pre-season preparations&just perform on da PSL League games.I wish u could be a gentleman&admit that Chimpz are like a 100 meter sprinter, hence they find it easy to win 3 match cups.&fail on the League coz to win the League u've got to be consistant.Just do that u'll earn my respect&failure 2 do so just close ur mouth 4eva. .

Phumelele: 2009-07-26 13:21

Exactly what I said is happening here. These ppl always have sumthing to say. When they beat that makeshift Man City team, it was like there was no tomorrow. Now that we did it when it mattered most, suddenly Man City is weak. Problem is they can't get their priorities right and Chiefs are good at that. What occurred last season will not occur again, that I promise you. On the lighter note; I also was a bit sceptical about Vlad but now not anymore. I think he's on the right track.

Lazola Nobecu : 2009-07-26 15:53

Once again the mighty Amakhosi continue to making history, the victor agains City keep reminding us as South Africans that it is possible for us to win the 2010 world cup,European players are people as well, they do get tired and they do make mistakes,we must get encouraged by what Amakhosi have done. well done Chiefs and all the best 4 the upcoming season.

Mashige thalukanyo : 2009-07-26 17:52

Pa ljudi čovjek je SRBI, šta se čudite što je špobjedio ove mulce. SRBI su pobjeđivali i mnogo veće i mnogo snažnije protivnike.

Well done coach. You must just stop playing this MMbooi boy because by the look of things, he will not be availabele for months while Jomo and Chiefs are fighting for him

Kali: 2009-07-27 08:56

Hehehe, Vlad I give you two months and then you'll begin to look like Muhsin. Last year at this time, he was the darling of SA soccer after having a good off-season, then the season started and the team got exposed.
And Kaizer Cheaps fans, reality check: That Man City side would have been beaten badly by Mpulanga Aces or even Free State Stars. Don't judge your your speed by racing against trees.
VIVA SIWELELEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. HELA YALO SANI

Kali: 2009-07-27 09:04

The Vodacom Challenge has only been beneficial in reiterating once again that Cheaps and Pirates won't be winning the league anytime soon.
The main contenders are Supersport, Sundowns, Celtic and Ajax. Mark my words.

Mzukisi (Chickmagnet): 2009-07-27 09:32

NO CHANCE JACOB I WILL NEVER CONGRATULATE THE SPICY HOT CHIPS...THEY WERE LUCKY THATS ALL. THIS SO CALLED WIN MAKE ME HATE THEM AND THIER CLUELESS FANS EVEN MORE

The Game: 2009-07-27 09:45

MR EDITOR: we asked if possible to have interviews from the match officials....(they need to answer on sum of the decisions...a penalty for Pirates,,,Ntuka controlling the ball using his hand,,,rough tackles putting our players careers' at risk and what's happening with ref's workshop...we need to know cos it looks lyk coaches jobs are in jeopardy with the poor referring here eMzansi...I'M WORRIED ABOUT AMA MATCH OFFICIALS !!!

mandla: 2009-07-27 12:31

Well Done Makhosi, one hopes that your batteries are fully charged for the whole season and not fade away when the challenge becomes tougher like last year.
