Phiri names final Chipolopolo squad

Zambia national soccer team coach Patrick Phiri has dropped six players as he named a 24-man team to carry the Zambian flag at next month’s African Cup of Nations tournament in Ghana.

Phiri has named six South Africa based players in his squad. Zambia is in Group C of the 26th Africa Cup of Nations alongside Cameroon, Egypt and Sudan.

Phiri said he was confident that the players in the final team would live up to expectations, adding that the Chipolopolo Boys’ camp in Spain would be helpful in blending the team together.

The squad named is:

Goalkeepers: Kennedy Mweene (Free State Stars) and Kalililo Kakonje (AmaZulu)

Defenders: William Chinyama, Hichani Himoonde (Lusaka Dynamos) Kennedy Nketani (Zanaco), Chintu Kampamba (Free State Stars), Elijah Tana (El-Mereikh, Sudan), Moses Sichone (Kickers Offenbach, Germany), Clive Hachilensa (IFK Manriehamn), Joseph Musonda and Billy Mwanza (Golden Arrows).

Midfielders: Ian Bakala, Felix Katongo (Premiero de Agosto), William Njobvu (Lusaka Dynamos), Clifford Mulenga (Pretoria University), Andrew Sinkala (Paderborn 07, Germany), Rainford Kalaba (Zesco United) and Isaac Chansa (Helsingborg IF, Sweden).

Strikers: Collins Mbesuma (Bursaspor, Turkey), Adubelo Phiri (Desportivo Premeiro Agosto), Jacob Mulenga (Strausbourg Racing, France), James Chamanga (Moroka Swallows), Emmaunel Mayuka (Kabwe Warriors) and Christopher Katongo (Brondby IF, Denmark).

Good choice in Chamanga. Not so sure about Felix Katongo but we know what his striker brother can do. I wish our fellow Cosafa team, Chipolopolo, all of the best in Ghana. I think this may be one of their best showings in htis tourney. Cheers comrades !!

This is a good selection made by coach...i also share the same sentiments with Sbu in as far as the team is concerned,this is a team which suprised bafana bafana..all the best guys keep the southern hemisphere flag flying high...good luck comrades.
