With more than 30 000 tickets for the 48 000-seater stadium already sold, a near capacity crowd is expected tonight when Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs clash at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
This despite predictions that the weather may not play ball, with cloudy cold conditions and fresh-to-strong south-westerly winds predicted along with a maximum temperature of 12C.
The traditional on-field rivalry has already spread to the Port Elizabeth fans.
Pirates' ‘self-proclaimed number-one supporter’ Johannes ‘Mzion’ Mofokeng told the EP Herald: “This is a longstanding battle ... We know Chiefs will come out spitting fire after failing to achieve what the Buccaneers achieved by beating Manchester City.
“We will beat Chiefs on and off the field because I know we have a big support base here in Port Elizabeth ... We will leave the stadium singing our victory songs.
“In 1999, Pirates won the Vodacom Challenge, and now that the tournament celebrates its 10-year anniversary, we will repeat that.”
Well-known Chiefs’ fan Masilo Machaka was equally confident of his side’s chances.
“We are here to compete for our deserved place in the Final, and beating Pirates will be the cherry on top for the fans. We should not be disappointed by the loss to City because the more important game is the one against Pirates, and my side will rise to the occasion. We do respect the Bucs, but won‘t give them a chance here in Port Elizabeth.”
Machaka pleaded with his side to score as many goals as possible to do their bit, as every goal scored will see R15 0000 go to charity.
The match kicks off at 20h15.
