Six-match ban for Nwabeke

Six-match ban for Nwabeke

Posted: 2009-07-22 17:49

The NPL have slapped a six-month ban on Warri Wolves official Okey Nwabeke and have handed life bans to two fans following an incident before a League match between Enugu Rangers and Warri Wolves in Nnewi last season.

The board of the NPL took these decisions after it examined the report of a five-man committee headed by Emmanuel Okaro, which reviewed the incident in Nnewi.

Nwabeke was punished for “unguarded comments” he made after the incident. Meanwhile, a notorious fan popularly called 'Ogubjobi' and another supporter were banned for life as they were deemed to have brought the game into disrepute.

Chairman of Warri Wolves, Pinnick Amaju, has also been ordered to apologise to NPL chairman Oyuki Obaseki for asking him to resign as a result of the incident.

Warri Wolves are to tender a public apology to Rangers and the league’s board for a false allegation against their opposition regarding the death of the goalkeeper Orobosa Adun.

The NPL board said it is convinced that from the report, the player’s death was not as a result of skirmishes in Nnewi as an autopsy was not conducted before the burial of the goalkeeper.

@nelson, you are right, how can they ban someone for life when that person doesn't. I.d? Its all eye service from NFF, it won't hold water.

I have never heard of six mach ban,not from FIFA.

This is a far reaching decision...I don't know if the culprits have the right of appeal to the NPL board. Furthermore, we're still awaiting the outcome of the investigation on the match btw Kaduna United and Zamfara FC! Any updates?

Y was an autopsy not conducted before the burial of the goal keeper. This is where the nff got it wrong. Now the cause of the goalkeepers death isnt known bcos our football house is managed by unpatriotic & unskilled elements. About the notorious fan hope the name spelt as ogu(b)jobi is right & not taiwo ogu(n)jobi(lol) who knows anything is possible in nigeria.. As for the match ban it okay and i hope they resolve the match fixing btw Kad utd & Zamfara fc

To those who are fools that this decision could move as such. It's not Victor. This is just another side-tracking. Diverting attention from the jibiti decision against Sharks. Now no one is talking about Sharks. Punishing W/Wolves now when the league ended more than a month ago and the incident happened long ong ago. There are othe cases that occured b4 this one. They are diverting our attention. Who would hold that guy if he goes to watch football in a stadium? can you identify him. Nonsense. The decision makers know this.
