Krol – ‘Pirates have the edge’

Orlando Pirates coach Ruud Krol has admitted his side has the advantage going into the Vodacom Challenge ‘semifinal’ against Kaizer Chiefs at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Thursday evening.

While Chiefs are still nursing some sore bodies after their tough encounter against Manchester City on Tuesday night, Pirates last played on Saturday when they beat the self-same Citizens in Polokwane.
 
“Recuperation is very important in football and the fact that Chiefs played a top team like Manchester City yesterday [Tuesday] does give us an advantage,” Krol says. “From our side, we have prepared well and are relaxed.”
 
Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung says the pressure is now on his side to pull a result out of the bag after their defeat to City on Tuesday.
 
“The game in Durban was almost like a practice match; there was no pressure on us to win,” he says. “But the pressure comes with Thursday’s game because there is no ‘friendly’ match when we play Pirates.
 
“This is especially true after what Pirates did last season [a first-ever League ‘Double’ over Chiefs] and our fans will be expecting us to put the record straight. From the players point of view too, they want to put the record straight.”
 
The winner of Thursday's match will get another crack at Manchester City in the Vodacom Challenge final at Loftus Stadium on Saturday.

Krol is right and he is a fair coach, I thought last year he was being a crybaby when he complained about the schedule after Bucs lost both matches. So Bucs have nnnooo excuse if they lose to Chiefs tomorrow. I never thought I'll see a day where sssooo many ugly players don the famous Gold & Black : Letsholonyane, Mbooi and Sweswe should not be mentioned in the same sentence as Glamour Boys. That Masenamela is hhhooottt, both looks wise and play wise, he's the next Tsepo Masilela.

We can all make noise and predictions. A game of football is played on the day and depends on the attitude. It’s true that Bucs has an upper hand and that Khosi is still looking.

I also believe that Pirates will win; however, I also think that Chiefs might wake up tonight and beat Pirates. Anything is possible in these kinds of games.

Fact is; Pirates is better than Chiefs in all aspects and Chief’s fans must just admit for once that Bucs are better than them after such a long time. It’s not going to be easy to beat Bucs this season if they keep the momentum and convert their chances. We all know thought that good football without goals does not pay dividends, so both teams will be under pressure and player’s attitude on the night will decide this game.

Pirates still has the same team while Chiefs is still wanting and that is not good for Amakhosi. Pirates already understand Krol while Chiefs are still looking and that is another setback.

The team that is in its right mind tonight will win the game.

I cannot say your stat statements are not valid and also I can't say they are valid. But I see the point you are making.

Pirates have what they call ‘quality-players’, during my serious playing days. I played for sides which were deemed top class and one team which was regarded as average. But I received more medals in with an average team than with ‘top-class’. I now regularly play indoor soccer. When we joined the league my team was regarded as a weak side since we compete with x-PSL players and some of the current ones. I can tell you we won that league, came as runner ups, got 3rd place and after all the achievements we are still labeled ‘Average’. One of the readers here is my team mate and actually my captain and will back me on that.

Look at Man United for example, the likes of Evra, Carric, Anderson, Nani etc… are not big names but they beat the likes of Chelsea’s big names and Real Madrid. It is all about getting the right combinations hence I am not worried about Chiefs not buying big names. Tonight’s game will be my testimony.

BrokenFan – I fully agree and that’s why I always believe that a game of football is played with attitude. And if it’s not right on the day, you can easily loose that game. France shocked the world and Brazil and went on to win the WC.

My point is, sometimes we have to admit to the facts and stop being biased. Pirates has assembled a better side than Chiefs and that should give them the upper hand, however, like you say, whoever combines well on the day will win the game. But, it will be more difficult for Chiefs than it will be for Pirates to win.

Chiefs must be worried indeed, their defence is poor' Man city had Two clear one on one chances with the goalkeeper and should they not address those i really see a problem. they are usually exposed when they overlap, i hope the two teams don't dissapoint and give us an intertaining one.

Same Chiefs was beaten by Orlando Pirates kwi Charity Cup,,,and currently Pirates has only won ONE GAME,,against City...sumtyms I find it difficult if we can't see the great performances by our rivals/competitors....cos truly speaking Bucs is continuing from where they left off ku previous season: so should they decide to field tried and tested combinations then it will be a problem for Chiefs who might try new signings....hope it makes sense !!

Kaizer chiefs fans are just making noise because of the loyalty to the team. But deep down they know their team lack quality players. While on the other hand Bucs fans, are rejoicing because of the options available on the team. Credit must go Kroll.

Its quite simple. Chiefs is dead, Their midlefielders lack ideas and creativity. DVD and Masango are just not matured yet, The back 4 is always caught chasing and their cant organise.
