Chiefs coach rues missed chances

Chiefs coach rues missed chances

Posted: 2009-07-21 22:53

Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic looked a disappointed man after watching his side go down 1-0 to Manchester City in the Vodacom Challenge on Tuesday night.

The Serbian was left to rue some missed chances, but says he is pleased with the application shown by his side against the English Premiership club in Durban.

“It is true that Man City were too strong for us, but we had some opportunities to score and that is good,” Vermezovic says. “Overall I would say we did not play so good, but I am satisfied with some things and other things I know we can be better. But it is a long road ahead and this is just part of the journey.”

City manager Mark Hughes was no doubt relieved to get a win under his belt in South Africa after the weekend defeat to Orlando Pirates in Polokwane.

“It was another good workout for us and once again we came up against good opposition,” Hughes says. “It was a great atmosphere in the stadium and we were delighted to be able to give more players some game-time and see them all come through unscathed.”

Asked whether he had enjoyed the chorus of vuvuzelas from the crowd, Hughes said the players were loving the uniquely South African atmosphere at the grounds.

“We have actually all been commentating on the atmosphere that the South African crowds can generate. It is stimulating for the players. Games at this stage of the season can sometimes have no energy, but that doesn’t happen South Africa, there is huge enthusiasm for the game in this country and that has been recognised by us.”

Man City is baie swaak. Everyone saw that Chiefs were somehow told not to score so as to make the competition look good. I mean imagine if Chiefs won, then Pirates and Chiefs would contest on Thursday to play in a final against a team they both beat. It wouldn't have make sense. Nice move by sponsors I hope they have learnt and bring 4 teams next year.

Oh my god Kaizer Chicks! I can not stop laughing at Motaung's miss you lot play like a bunch of girls. Now listen and take these words of wisdom I am about to impart onto you because this is the realest thing I've ever said on here. Watch Orlando pirates properly if you want to learn how to put a ball in the back of the net. Take this advice it's for your own good trust me.

If Kaizer Chicks agreed not to beat City as you ridiculously state then that club has no honour and integrity at all as they have gone against the principle of fair play and fair competition just for the sake of a bit of money. What an awful and repulsive club, but i'm not surprised.

I know that Chiefs were too generous to the visitors by not scoring those many easy chances.

But I do not understand why they should give any Man City player the "Man Of The Match" award because only 3 players deserved it and they are all in Yellow & Black:
Nengomasha, Senamela and Khune in that order.

chiefs sucks, and it will be proven on thursday.

PhatKatt: 2009-07-22 06:48

Matter of fact , I knew at the back of my mind that Cheeves will lose, No matter how well thay can claim to have played they still losed like they will on Thursday, Already they have that stupid Premier Cup so thats all for them this season.

Be careful Kevin. Pirates played "beautiful soccer" all season and won nothing. You don't want that.

Big Dude: 2009-07-22 07:39

I enjoyed Bucs-Mancity game more than I enjoyed Khosi-Man City. Last night Man city sat back in the second half and never attacked Chiefs. Still baffles me why Chiefs did not capitalise on that.

Objective: 2009-07-22 07:49

Why is it necessary to ask about "the chorus of the vuvuzela from the crowd"?

Proffesor: 2009-07-22 07:57

What was ok when you watched it at home… as it was free… terrible if you where at the stadium! Hehehe

• First half – it was like watching that Bafana Bafana vs. Iraq game in the Confederations Cup. What was exciting here?
• Second half – let me tell you something… once you start playing with your fone and looking to SMS ladies… what does that say about this half? This half… it was like watching Mamelodi Sundowns vs. Bafana Bafana.
• All Zimbabweans players were weak…!!!
• Kaizer Junior has gain weight??? Think the boy must join that show - Biggest Loser. I don’t know if Bobby told the Coach to play Junior the entire game.
• Coach of Chiefs must start wearing tracksuits. That suit doesn’t do it… he looks like a clown… come on people help the men.

I wonder if I was alone I was going to finish this game. Overall I give it a 2½ out of 10 – how was Generations people eish I missed it? hehehe

Donald: 2009-07-22 07:58

Chips is shaky at the back and Pirates will capitalise on that.Punch is attacking more than what he is supposed to do "defending"

Dan: 2009-07-22 07:59

Chiefs played well, I love all the the players but the coach will make fans hate some. Kaizer jr. is not a bad player but as for last night he was totaly lost and he should have been substituted. Please the coach must protect our players from being named in shame - I mean if it's not your day...!!!! this is why we have reserves

Papas: 2009-07-22 08:03

Broke Fan??? You & I knows that what you are saying is not true but I understand your pain... but there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.... Truth be told they played good soccer not best but good....

Mongo??? we do not need your wisdom since you can't even spell & I am not even going to entertain your questions about what is it that you mispelled, revert to your pathetic comments & check your spelling...

I think Masango will be a next good thing, if he can make sure he passes the ball like he did yesterday, he will trouble lots of teams.

Punch - I just saw another Bashera, he need to check his overlapping but after-all Simphiwe Tshabala will be there to cover him up.

Yende - we have just unveiled a new Scara Ngobese

Motaung Jnr - What can I say about the future chairman of Kaizer Chiefs, yes he had a bad day at office, if he can look up before he shoot the ball, he will be the leading goal scorer, remember the time Katongo was the leading goal scorer, he was trailing with less than 3goals & he didn't play the last three games?

All in all I saw a better team than last season..

The great test is tomorrow.

Nice one BrokeFan, I'm sure you have taken your morning after pill and your are in your right mind now, in your last night defensive statement I fail to figure if you trying to sound like a politician, a fanatic or a clawn. Whether chances were missed or not, Chiefs lost period. Your team looked average, all players are just average, no big game player, no match winner, just a bunch of players huffin' and puffin, if your team could win 75% of their 1st 6 league games, I will quite watchin' local soccer because that will mean our whole soccer is weak. I'm certain other coaches were smillin' watching Cheifs looking so yummy, they so eatable, hah!

mthokozi: 2009-07-22 08:12

well done makhosi amahle its better to know areas that needs to be improved during pre season. it was very clear last night that we need someone to control the defence there were just too many one on one occasions luckly we still have khune. the system we played just did not accomodate Nale, Mathebula just did not look comfortable, Kaizer junior just cannot be a lone striker. but i really enjoyed watching Masenamela he looks good going forward, Masango has the potential to give us more lets hope he gets more game time.

The Coach is right, Chiefs were tactically not bad but their technical skills were questionable last night. My problem is that, speaking under correction, it looks like the Coaches philosophy is more defensive with reliance on counter attacks. That philosophy works well with very good and pacey players. You need players with good individual technical skills to excel and I don’t see that @ Chiefs now.

Kaizer Jr might have missed chances but his tactical awareness was ok. The two supporting players were far and always running into wrong positions and that’s why most of the miss passes by Jr.

The other thing observed is that, they are very slow with their counter attacks and that won’t do them any good in the coming season. I hope the Coach will work on that. Sweswe’s position and timing was also questionable last night. If City were a clever team, Chiefs would have been punished dearly.

I also counted a couple of negative passing between Nengo and Reneilwe. I know a lot of people don’t appreciate Mathebula but the boy really needs commitment from other players. His passing and vision is great. With positive passes and urgency out of you own half, Chiefs can still compete. The only problem will be scoring goals this season. I don’t see a lot of goals coming from Khosi this season.

I might be wrong but players like Yende are just overrated. This is just another popeye player like abo Scara, Shakes Ngwenya, Thando Mgomeni, etc.

Anyway, let’s wait for all players to be match fit and see them in the next 2 or 3 weeks because if this is what they are giving, then Pirates will walk away with a couple of silverware this season. Whether we like it or not, Pirates is the only team that show purpose and hunger and if they keep converting their chances, they will win everything this season. DON’T BE CONFUSED, I AM NOT A BUCCUNEER. BUT ITS TRUE….

Disco - Chiefs didn't even defend well. They were always caught off guard, relied on offside trap (10 by Man City). That will kill them; it killed them last season (if u remember some games). Technically Chiefs still need to improve. The defense must still work together and as for strikers, only Bobby knows what he wants. I’m still not convinced with Chiefs attacking players. Is it Mathebula/Dladla/Yede/Nale? Neither of them is that aggressive enough. They need to work hard. I still think Chiefs will play in the final come Saturday.

Yende is a great playmaker, i dnt need to be told..i saw for myself...its just that his combination with Reneilwe was just not working. The only problem is upfront, that one goes without saying.Motaung lacks skill and technique to penetrate through the defence given the one on one chances he gets

Not a bad performance from Chiefs but I am/was very disappointed with the performance of Yende, this Boy is not a Chiefs material and I don’t know how come Bobby let a player like Gert go for free and went on to buy a useless player like this Yende guy.

I think both Masango and Punch did well in the first half but ran out of steam in the 2nd half, all these Chiefs players must really work on their first touch it is really poor and they must always try to support a player who is in possession otherwise I am certain that Chiefs will walk over Pirates tomorrow

by the looks of things, Pierts is the most prepared of the two...their new players can do the job a lot better than the players who has been there already, its unlike Chips although they have got a couple of new signings however they're not exciting but average players.u need to have dept in your team..thats the most important thing if you want to be seen to be seriously contesting for leaque honors

Disco: 2009-07-22 08:48

OBG – I agree 100%. They were caught because of their positioning. Maybe it’s because the players are still new and are not used to the coaches philosophies. But we don’t need excuses, like they said, they are professionals and needs to adapt quickly.

But I must disagree with Chiefs beating Pirates. The game btwn Chiefs and Bucs is always about pride and chiefs can only win it if they change their attitude. They need to show hunger without compromising quality of course. Pirates is good in both attack and defense and with chiefs looking like this, they will never beat Pirates anytime soon.

mandla: 2009-07-22 08:58

I'll be the first one to admitt that Makhosi finally we have a coach.Vladimir knows what he's doing,i mean it's preseason. This is the only time he has on his disposal to look at all the players.
There's no need to shoot with all your ****nal this time of the season(we still had Jose & Chippa on the bench).Good coach indeed.
1.Punch-He's a marvel to watch a great prospect
2.Reneilwe-As to why mushin did nt play him it beats me,he's a STAR in the making.
3.Tinashe-FANTABULOUS captain
4.JD and DVD-looked great together in the midfield
5.Kaizer Jnr-Simply had an off day in the office.
6.Masango-I agree with Papas,he's next big thing
7.Yende-looked casual understandably so coming 4rm an injury bt he showed great touches.A Real no 10
8.Mbooi-For me not worth the court battle.give molekwane a chance he's a great fullback.
9.As for Sweswe the jury is still out on him and he's yet to be tested.
Overall we have a winning team this season, with the return of Shabba and Tau we'll be a force. As for Pirates i say you'll see a different team tomorrow.Smax

Etheni: 2009-07-22 08:58

Just like Michael Jackson, K. Chiefs is an easy target bad mouths. After Man City lost to pierats, one wud obvious expect them to tripple their effor in their Chiefs' game. Chiefs will beat City 1-0 at the final. Mark my words all u f*n haters.

mandla: 2009-07-22 09:04

Pirates’ key players
Andile Jali: Given the free role, the Benedict Vilakazi look-alike former Pretoria University player could trouble Amakhosi on the night and in more derbies to come.

Phenyo Mongala: He announced his arrival with a brilliant curler against City. He also gave Chiefs skipper Jimmy Tau a torrid time in the Nedbank Cup while turning out for Pretoria University last season. If Krol uses that type of mind game in this game, it could pay dividends.

Chiefs’ key players
Knowledge Musona: Striker Musona has the advantage of speed. If he doesn’t become injury-prone, the goal ace’s stay at Amakhosi could be pleasant. This may be a decent outing for him against Pirates.

Mthokozisi Yende: AmaTuks former player, who has missed all three of Chiefs’ pre-season games. A great passer of the ball and midfield genius, what better team to make his mark against than Bucs.

it took English premiership side to end Chips Preseason winning streak..this is a team that never lost a game in pre season matches...but the team that did that is the same team that were beaten thoroughly by Pierats.so it simply means that Pierats are going to humiliate Chips with 4 - 5 goals..cortesy of 2 goals by Mongala after outpacing and tricking Captain Jimmy Tau

Orlando Pirates supporters may be glad to learn that Kaizer Chiefs intend to field a line up against them that is not considered “full strength.” Chiefs’ team manager Bobby Motaung revealed to the Siya crew that different players and combinations may be tried out this Thursday evening at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium......

by the way from one of the socalled Editors:

Ag shame...kaizer cheap, next time ladies. The amount of noise that the media makes about kaizer cheap was suprisingly so quiet this morning it was deafning my ears. I did not see the game yesterday, so I was relying on sport results this morning which I battled for the rest of the morning to see, what was the score. I tryed sabc 2; etv and radio no one was talking about it. Cicici, man, kaizer cheap can you be yourself for a moment and stop wanting to compete with the awsomeness of the team in red, black and white. You know what your problem is? greed!! Kaizer cheap is the most greedy club I know sis, I dislike K-cheap with all of my being. They are too proud with their big mouths, too clever for their own good sis. Be humble and acknowledge that you are a successful club, and focus on what you have to do. The reason you lost the game it becos you are thinking about how Orlando "awsomeness" Pirates beat Man City. What a low club Kaizer cheap is making themselves to be. K-cheap and Sunglown are one and the same thing-losers and shame in the South African Football.

I have to attend a funeral somewhere in Mpumalanga not sure of the distance and if I can make it to Pretoria in time for the game. Moeva and Brokefan: ya really typical 'The Kaizer Chiefs' fans,,,,guys you claimed that the derby is watched by billions,,,were you referring to the flies or bees: Man City doesn't know you, shame after the earbashing we got last year when you were playing Manchester,,it was a disgrace to hears such embarrassing words from their Assistant Manager,,,back to reality,,,first: you must win the Absa League Premiership, Second; you have to play in the Caf competitions,,,(sum international scouts do watch sum of the games(semi-finals to finals), third: you must buy players from sum of the well known leagues,(Germany, F.A, Denmark, France,,etc) fourth: don't buy players from Zimbabwe third division,,,Benjani don't even know those cows !!!

Yah chips fans can not see that their team is an accident about to happen this season.

1)Who will score goals for chips, how many this season......I can bet with my last coin these guys can play for two days full days without scoring wat not even against Banyana Banyana.

2)The China shop owners will make huge profits from this chiefs T-Shirt, it will take them an hour to counterfake it and it will be all over the streets, whosoever design it is a Comic....Maybe he wanted the Chairman's son to use it as an undergarmet for his Modeling......?

Performance wise, Chiefs played very well and were a better side than City. They must just concentrate on 2moros game, look @th positives aspects they mustered, eliminate some errors and 4get abt the defeat as badly want 2 beat Piecity 2moro and have another go at City... Z. Mlomo

Chiefs let SA down by not scoring easy chances. If a team fails to score goals, then whatever they have done is in vain because this is football and goals count. Good luck for tomorrow though. Make every Khosi4Life happy all over the world!

As for you Bibs you beter get the book(bible) which rhymes wit your name and go get skeleton bones to make witchcraft and pray to god that Bucs will beat us(chiefs) in tomorows game. You only rely on our former player"Gert" but that cuoldn't even have helped coz as for Gert we know deep down he misses being at Chiefs. Khozi 4 life
