City complete Adebayor deal

Manchester City have finally completed the signing of Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor.

The striker has signed a five-year deal with the club and becomes their third major attacking signing of the summer.

City boss Mark Hughes has already signed the likes of Roque Santa Cruz and Carlos Tevez, and with Adebayor now on board the total of first team strikers at City of Manchester Stadium goes up to nine.

The transfer of the Togolese forward has been expected for the past week, with personal terms and work-permits being the only things to hold up progress of the deal.

Now though, the transfer is complete, and Adebayor will begin next season with City, possibly wearing the No 25 shirt that he wore at Arsenal.

The 25-year-old has progressed immensely in his time with the Gunners and is still to enter the peak of his career.

Hughes declared after the club’s defeat to Orlando Pirates earlier today that the former Monaco man would be a great addition to his squad and will present him with yet another attacking option.

The signing of Adebayor throws the futures of Craig Bellamy, Benjani, Felipe Caicedo and Valeri Bojinov into doubt, with all four unlikely to get a regular starting place at the club, and may find themselves part of the expected clear out at the club.

Adebayor, meanwhile, will challenge for a first-team spot, and will be hoping to improve on his 46 goals in 104 league appearances for the Gunners.

It is no doubt that with these attack-minded players plus the likes of Robinho on the flanks, Man City will be a force.

Yet they look licky at the back.
