Orlando Pirates will be unveiling their new home and away jersey for the 2009/10 season at a public event held in Carlton Centre on Wednesday.
Executive administrator Floyd Mbele tells KickOff.com that the ceremony will be preceded with entertainment by local music groups.
“We will have groups like Chomee and his dancers along with other groups before we officially launch the jersey,” Mbele says.
The new jersey will be used in the opening game of the Vodacom Challenge against English Premiership side Manchester City, who will also be unveiling their new kit for the very first time.
Mbele says the new Pirates jersey will be available across the country at all adidas Concept Stores and at selected retail stores from Wednesday afternoon ahead of the Vodacom Challenge as well as the League opener.
Meanwhile, City kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 1-1 draw against 1860 Munich in Germany on Saturday.
City striker Valeri Bojinov netted the equaliser on the hour mark to cancel out Alexander Ludwig’s opener.
Manchester City boss Mark Hughes, who has confirmed that he will be bringing his strongest possible 30-man squad for the Vodacom Challenge which commences on Saturday, used this game to experiment with a few youthful introductions in Kieran Trippier, Clayton McDonald, Ben Mee and Ryan McGovern who come from the development ranks of the club.
Hughes also included in his starting line-up regulars such as club player of the season (2008/09 season) midfielder Steven Ireland, Pablo Zabaleta, Martin Petrov and new signing Stuart Taylor.
Pirates will lock horns with City at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
The ticket prices for this mouth-watering pre-season encounter are set at R100 per ticket (main grandstand, unreserved seating) and R45 per ticket (open seating, unreserved).
