Pirates to launch new jersey

Posted: 2009-07-13 11:27

Orlando Pirates will be unveiling their new home and away jersey for the 2009/10 season at a public event held in Carlton Centre on Wednesday.

Executive administrator Floyd Mbele tells KickOff.com that the ceremony will be preceded with entertainment by local music groups.

“We will have groups like Chomee and his dancers along with other groups before we officially launch the jersey,” Mbele says.

The new jersey will be used in the opening game of the Vodacom Challenge against English Premiership side Manchester City, who will also be unveiling their new kit for the very first time.

Mbele says the new Pirates jersey will be available across the country at all adidas Concept Stores and at selected retail stores from Wednesday afternoon ahead of the Vodacom Challenge as well as the League opener.

Meanwhile, City kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 1-1 draw against 1860 Munich in Germany on Saturday.

City striker Valeri Bojinov netted the equaliser on the hour mark to cancel out Alexander Ludwig’s opener.

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes, who has confirmed that he will be bringing his strongest possible 30-man squad for the Vodacom Challenge which commences on Saturday, used this game to experiment with a few youthful introductions in Kieran Trippier, Clayton McDonald, Ben Mee and Ryan McGovern who come from the development ranks of the club.

Hughes also included in his starting line-up regulars such as club player of the season (2008/09 season) midfielder Steven Ireland, Pablo Zabaleta, Martin Petrov and new signing Stuart Taylor.

Pirates will lock horns with City at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

The ticket prices for this mouth-watering pre-season encounter are set at R100 per ticket (main grandstand, unreserved seating) and R45 per ticket (open seating, unreserved).

No guys, theres nothing wrong with having new jerseys every season...as long as the new look maintains the club's strips and colours, with de exception of de away jersey of cause...this is good for marketing purposes...we all want new and fresh looks...besides,this trend is not unique to SA or Pirates for that matter...

Bonga: 2009-07-13 12:21

U know that song “Ubani uMoney Maker”? hehehe well the answer to that is Floyd Mbele! So Pirates will get rid of their last season jerseys for these new ones. It’s not one by two people – away and home.

Or Chiefs as well have new Jerseys for those u don’t know – 2009/10 season!
Sundowns r brining back their Disprin jersey at least it will have NIKE thou! hehehe

Moe4eva: 2009-07-13 12:51

Hangwanie: 2009-07-13 13:55

Bonga, my nephew bought Pirates jersey over the weekend as well. It is amazing how Pirates changes their jerseys. As for Chiefs their jerses are a must wear, Dont be suprised to see Prates fans wearing Chiefs jersey under their jackets.

Bhoza: 2009-07-13 13:59

Disprin has offered Sunfloppers a sponsor coz they suffer from headaches throughout the season. I hope it will work for them to dumpens their sufferings.

Khosi 4 life

njabulo: 2009-07-13 14:02

It is neither pink nor green. Rudi Krol is from Nertherlands and so he suggested they have an ORANGE jersey to complement good football (just good football with nothing to show) as the Dutch are also known for good football with no silverware to show. Once an orange always an orange!!

harry: 2009-07-13 14:44

First thing 1st where is sundowns coming to the picture?this aticle is about Pirates as for the jersey i dont know cause a kit doesn't play soccer only the player as 4 Chiefs i see a good season if they can play the way they against Iran,S/downs my team i see a formidable force remember all the players had being playing 2gether last season so the result is to win evry game & play every tournament.
