Enyimba win Nigeria Cup

Posted: 2009-07-12 20:39

Sharks will have to wait at least another year to win a major trophy after they lost 0-1 to Enyimba in the Nigerian Federation Cup on Sunday in Lagos.

Defender Musa Mustapha flew in unmarked to power in an unstoppable header from Andrew Igado's free kick.

The goal allowed Enyimba, tentative until then, to take control and put a stranglehold on the game, allowing Sharks very little opportunity.

Philip Auta could have doubled the advantage soon after, but hit his angled shot wide after outpacing his marker.

Sharks lacked invention upfront, and their attacking threat of Victor Ezeji and Chibuzor ozurumba offered very little potency upfront.

It was left to midfielder Thankgod Amaefule, himself a former striker to provide the inspiration, but two good opportunities were fluffed by John Aondongu, who took extra touches inside the box that allowed first Odita, and then Mustapha to recover and make timely clearances.

Enyimba continued to look the more likely to score as the game wore on, but the single strike proved enough, and Enyimba are back in trophy-winning ways.

For Sharks, its a case once again of so near, yet so far and the jinx continues.

I watched this match on Super Sports and for once I appreciated our local football.

MY OPINION! ALL THE U-17 WORLD-CUP VENUES SHOULD BE PUT INTO USE FOR OUR GLO-PREMIER LEAGUE.

Enyimba, You have done it again. We the people of Abia State and the South-east as a whole are so proud of you.

i dont think we can host this under 17.FIFA should award the host to another country.lets save our selves from embarrasments.look at yesterday's game, there was no security at the stadium just boys scouts and hw did a naked man get into the pitch after the game.we staying very close to the stadium hardly have 1 hr electricity a day.and the same stadium wants to host the world.

Pls Oge i want to know if u are a man or a woman bc if u are a woman i for come and marry u,i always enjoy ur contributions, then for Ojen pls if Niga should be underated i think that should not come from u bc what ever u call ur dog it will answer rem we have organized a bigger event than under 17

lawman: 2009-07-13 15:18

@Anayo i dnt think nigerian can host any major events like world cup now. This country nigeria is going from better to worst.our so called politians are just there to spend and full their pocket and not to serve the public.i cant imagine we stil lack the basic things in life like light and good water.even during nigeria 1999 there was black out in the stadium.im very ashame og our country and our football in general.imagine small countries like ghana can boost of good democracy and football management but Nigeria is just survival of the fittest only the strong survives

lawman: 2009-07-13 15:23

you will never know how bad nigeria is until the day u wil travel outside nigeria.pple will look at u as criminals just bcos u are a nigerian. And its a big shame cos our politians does nothing over this.our football magt is too corrupted n its managed by old pple.i just pray that lord will save this country

oge: 2009-07-13 18:32
