Confusion over continental places

Confusion over continental places

Posted: 2009-07-11 21:58

Confusion has broken out over which club to award Nigeria's last continental place to.

The winners of the domestic Cup competition automatically qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup, but Enyimba, who are one of the finalists, have already qualified for the competition by virtue of finishing third in the League.

Fellow Federation Cup finalists Sharks believe that, should they lose Sunday's Final, the place should go to them by default. That position is being contested by Warri Wolves, who finished fourth in the League.

Wolves want the continental place awarded to them instead and are pushing their case aggressively through a top NFF Marketing Consultant.

The issue has caused serious division within the NFF board, and a meeting on Saturday afternoon stretched late into the night with no agreement reached.

However, sources within the board informed KickOffNigeria.com that the pendulum is swinging Sharks’ way, with at least two influential board members arguing that the ticket is reserved for the Cup and should stay there.

Of course, the whole argument could become academic if Sharks take matters into their hands and win the trophy.

this is not an issue. it has always being the case world-wide that any club that loses the FA cup qualifies for the continental games if the winning team has already qualify for the continent through the league.
who are those in this NFF? do they know anything about football at all? or are they just like their fellow politicians that dont even know the content of the Nigerian constitution

I bow for una NFF. from where I am sitting there is no confusion at all because Shark have allready qualified automatically beign in Final ( cause Enyimba have qualified allready). End of story

I CAN SMELL THAT BRIBE IS CAUSING SOME TROUBLES HERE. WHEN SHALL THIS END?
NFF AM VERY SORRY FOR YOU, YOU ARE KILLING NIGERIAN FOOTBALL INTERNATIONALLY

There must be a constitution review by NFF. Since there may not be time for that I will suggest a toss of coin for the runner up for Challenge cup and 4th placed league winners should Enyimba win the Challenge cup. If I am Sharks what we should concern ourselves is to win the Challenge cup to represent Nigeria by merit. For Enyimba, they should make sure they win the challenge cup because of the amount of money involved, the players and management you need that money. For Wolves I will advise you to pray harder because you do not have any other chance to win the right to represent Nigeria by merit. So if NFF decides to toss coins, that it may fall to your advantage. I am sure going by NFF constitution all the three clubs have a stake in the current situation. Since no laws exist because the NFF did not anticipate such a situation, then tossing the coin will do for now till the the NFF constitution is reviewed.
Lest I forget, remember that nobody knew that either Enyimba will win third place in the league and be in the final for Challenge cup. Also nobody knew Wolves will be placed 4th nor did anyone knew that Sharks will be in the final of the challenge cup. This makes it an issue which it will be left for NFF to resolve unless Sharks wins the Challenge cup.

NFF close ur eyes let us pray.LORD,i pray 4 this group ,dat will never close their eyes aganist corruption not to kill our football in Jesus name.Amen.

For anybody to insinuate that the nfa do not know the rules to abide with is simple misleading, though our dear nfa is capable of anything, but fifa which is the generall body of which even the nfa is a part of, has laid down rules for every situation that might arise in football, and the rule here is in the favour of sharks, win or lose

We have failed to acknowledge that Nigeria is a failed state. Until we accept this, we don't have to ask why anymore. chikina :(

WHEN PRES.OBAMA WAS TALKING ABOUT CORRUPTION,BRIBERY,LAND DISPUTE,NEPOTISM AT ACCRA GHANA,I SAW SOME MEN IN BABANRIGA[DANSHIKI] ATTIRE FLOWNING AND LOOKING AT EACH OTHER,ONE WHISPERED TO HIS COLLEAGUE.."IS THIS SON OF A GOAT HERD MAN TALKING ABOUT US,HOW DARE HIM"...THERES DIVISION CONCERNING THIS WHEN MONEY IS ABOUT TO EXCHANGE HAND,OTHERWISE THE RULE IS VERY SIMPLE AND STRAIGHT FORWARD.BUT THEN NIGERIAN MANAGEMENT IS INCORRIGIBLE.IF THEY CHANGE,THEY DIE,WAYO, JIPITI, AND MAGO MAGO KEEPS THEM ALIVE.

Billion: 2009-07-12 09:54

@Victor,Nigeria is not a failed state, I'll rather say it consists of "some failed people" failing themselves and "others" around them. This explains why in a corporate office, the sum of 136,000 dollars could be missing without a trace and those responsible for it are still collecting salaries and estacodes!

NFA changed her name to NFF, yet the confusion ranges on. It's now crystal clear that what Nigerian football needs is not a change of name but a change of personel. It's high time we allowed people who have sound knowledge of football to take charge of our football administration. The issue of who takes the last continental ticket wouldn't have become an issue if we have a round peg in a round hole because NFF constitution would have taken care of it; what is more it's an envisageable scenero. In case NFF official do not know, let me inform them that the ticket automatically goes to Sharks in case Enyimba wins the cup. Why? The ticket is reserved for cup winners and under FIFA rules, from where NFF got her rule, the ticket goes to the runners up if the winners have already qualified via the league. Thank you!

@ Billion....great response to victor's comment.

We have too many wrong people in public positions, my only concern is that when will this stop. These people lack integrity.

oge: 2009-07-12 14:49

Does anyone know the link to the online coverage of the FA cup final b/w Enyimba vs Sharks fc.Any kind of suggestion will be appreciated.

novo: 2009-07-12 21:05

It is sad that those governing our football are just foolish criminals!
Meanwhile KON, what about the case of the stolen money from the NFF glass house? It is as if that has been swept under the carpet

Matthias Babatunde: 2009-07-13 12:45

THIS ISSUE IS RATHER FUNNY, ANYWAY. IT IS CLEAR THAT THE LOSER (IN THIS CASE - SHARKS) HAS THE RIGHT TO REPRESENT THE COUNTRY NOT THE 4TH PLACED OF THE LEAGUE AS THE POST BELONGS TO THE NATIONAL CUP WINNER. BUT A WAY OURT CAN TIE-BREAK MATCH BETWEEN THE 4TH PLACED IN LEAGUE - WARRI WOLVES AND SHARKS.

Pls i want the Nff to go back to record and see if this situation has occurd before i think if am not mistaking the old Iwuanyanwu has represented the coutry before as a runners up of the fa cup,and if record can not proof it at all u beter give it to sharks why bc Wolves did not qualify to represent the coutry in continental cup so they should keep quiet and forget about it, pls let the team that suffers for it go for it thats my own opinion
