Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has emphasised the importance of this evening’s clash with SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Though both sides remain mathematically in the title race, Amakhosi’s visit to Matsatsantsa tonight is set to prove decisive in the race for CAF interclub spots.

Chiefs currently occupy seventh position on the log standings, while SuperSport are three points ahead in fifth spot, making victory even more crucial for the Soweto side.

Middendorp has thus stressed that plenty is at stake at the Lucas Moripe Stadium this evening and declared their readiness to upset the Tshwane outfit.

“The match against SuperSport United will play a role in deciding who will be in the running for top league positions,” Middendorp told his club’s website.

“It promises to be a tough fixture against an opponent that’s on a good run. SuperSport United have a good squad, but we are here to perform and do what we need to do.

“I’m satisfied with our preparations. We just need to walk onto the pitch and do what we have practiced during the week.”

Kick-off of the match is billed for 20h00.

Meanwhile, a potential debut is on the cards for teenage rising star Njabulo Blom, whom Middendorp confirmed is in the provisional squad for tonight.

“Njabulo Blom has been included in the travelling squad. I’ve noticed a positive change in his game and persona, which is good. He’s showing signs of being ready to make his first team debut,” added the German.
