Vuyo Mere wants Bidvest Wits to get back to winning ways against Bloemfontein Celtic

Posted: 15 March 2019 Time: 12:19

Bidvest Wits defender Vuyo Mere admits things have been difficult in the last few games after defeats to AmaZulu and Cape Town City.

It's almost the same with tonight's opponents Bloemfontein Celtic who have only managed draws in their last two league games, something that will make both teams go for maximum points tonight.

Siwelele are eighth on the Absa Premiership table with 31 points from 23 matches, while the Clever Boys are fourth with 38 points, five points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

"It's been the hardest weeks for us as we didn't get the results we were looking for," Mere tells

"But it's in the past and we learnt our lesson about our mistakes and took a positive out. Now we face another crucial game and we are going there with clear heads and respect for the opposition.

"It's gonna be a tough clash because Celtic is a good team with a good technical staff. We all know about their 12th player at their home games so we are expecting a tough clash.

"No excuses. We made mistakes that cost us badly and we learnt from them, so we want to go back to our winning ways and we have an opportunity to do that."

The veteran defender scoffs at those who think the wheels have come off the Clever Boys' wagon and believes by doing so they are playing into their hands.

"That's exactly what we want them to think," he says. "Let them have their favourites to win the title, then that will be good for us, if you know what I mean my brother."

Kick-off at Dr Molemela Stadium tonight is at 20h00.
