Sadio Mane sets new Liverpool record after UEFA Champions League exploits against FC Bayern Munich

African superstar Sadio Mane has set an incredible UEFA Champions League record for Liverpool, previously held by club legend Steven Gerrard.

The Reds produced a historic display at the Allianz Stadium in a convincing round of 16 victory over the Bundesliga champions.

And Mane, who's been in a supreme form of late was at the forefront of their attacking display and netted a brace, the first of which even earned applause from the home supporters.

As a result, The Lions of Teranga forward has now surpassed former captain Steven Gerrard as the highest scorer away from home for the Reds in Europe's elite club competition with seven strikes, as per Opta.

With the 26-year-old only in his third season at the club and having not featured in the competition in his first season - it comes as a remarkable achievement against the former England superstar.

Overall, Mane has now scored 19 goals in 37 games across all competitions this season.
