Kaizer Chiefs' George Maluleka warns of Polokwane City's unpredictable nature

Kaizer Chiefs vice-captain George Maluleka has called on his teammates to back themselves against an unpredictable Polokwane City outfit and believes team effort could solve their goal scoring woes.

Chiefs face a stern test away to a Rise and Shine side beaming with confidence after holding defending Absa Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns to a 1-1 draw in midweek.

With their title chances on the line, it will be imperative for Amakhosi to come away with at least a point if they are to remain within reach of log leaders Bidvest Wits.

However, Maluleka believes all that is required from the Soweto giants to overcome their Limpopo-based opponents is to continue playing the sort of football that has brought them some decent results of late against the likes of Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits.

“Polokwane City has always been a tough fixture, you never know what to expect from them on the day, but we respect them like we do all our opponents,” said Maluleka.

“But if we know that we can play the brand of football that we have been playing, then we can put ourselves in a better position to win the game.

“We know we’re going to create chances and now it’s just up to us to make sure that we convert them.”

Converting their chances has arguably proved the biggest challenge for Chiefs of late, having scored more than one goal in just four of their last 10 domestic matches under coach Ernst Middendorp.

But ‘Mido’ feels it is the duty of all 10 outfield players on the pitch to try and contribute in changing that and working together as a unit will ultimately solve their issues in front of goal.

“I think we all know as players that each and every one of us needs to contribute, whether it’s with goals or performance-wise, and it’s a team effort,” he added.

“That proved against The Magic – we didn’t have all the chances, because there was some defending to do, but we need to stick together and there’s no other way.”
