SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo has revealed January transfer window signing George Lebese will be ready to make his first start of the season this week.
Lebese, who joined Matsatsantsa on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns on deadline day, made his first appearance of the season when he came on as a substitute for the final 23 minutes in a 3-2 victory over Golden Arrows nine days ago.
The former Kaizer Chiefs player did not play a single match for Sundowns in the first half of the season, spending his entire time watching the side’s matches from the sidelines. Lebese could not even make the bench at Sundowns, but is now enjoying himself again after making the move to Tshwane rivals SuperSport.
Tembo says the 30-year-old will probably come on as a substitute against Orlando Pirates at Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday night (19h30) and then start against Baroka at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday (20h15).
“I think we are all well aware what George can give in terms of his quality. He is a big player, he has played for Chiefs and Sundowns, so it says a lot about his quality as a player. We are aware that he has not been played for the past six to seven months, but I’m really happy and motivated with his attitude towards training,” Tembo said.
“It takes a lot for him to decide to leave a team like Sundowns and ‘I want to go out there and play football’ and that’s very key. He has come in and he had able to gel with the team. He looks happy and that’s very key for us as well.
Tembo continued: “We are still trying to build his match fitness and I think against Pirates he will play a role. I think by the time we play Baroka he will be ready to start.”
