Mamelodi Sundowns had their first training session in Abidjan earlier today, as they prepare for match day four of the CAF Champions League group stages.
The 2016 champions, who left for Ivory Coast on Thursday, arrived in the country’s capital Abidjan at around 20h00 and had some rest before having training and a video session.
Pitso Mosimane’s men take on ASEC Mimosas at Stade Felix Houphouet Boigny, the national stadium of Ivory Coast, on Tuesday.
While they are Abidjan, Sundowns will train once a day, as they guard against overloading the players during this hectic period in the season. They’ve had to juggle domestic football with their matches on the continent, with all the traveling in between.
The Brazilians will train at the match venue on the day before the game on Monday, and have their final video session at night.
Sundowns are top of Group A on six points following their victories at home against Wydad Casablanca and ASEC and now they will be looking to collect points away from home for the first time in this season’s group campaign.
It will be a tough match against a side that has not conceded a goal on home soil in the Champions League this season.
Sundowns will depart for the airport immediately after their game.
“A win in Abidjan is very important for us, and we must win here against Lobi Stars so that when we go to Casablanca we don’t go there desperately needing a result.”
