Cavin Johnson explains Mabhuti Khenyeza assistant coach role at AmaZulu

Posted: 7 February 2019 Time: 09:41

Cavin Johnson has outlined his plans to help Mabhuti Khenyeza achieve his dream of becoming one of the best coaches in the country.

The AmaZulu head coach wants Khenyeza to follow in the footsteps of Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy by getting his official coaching badges, and also clarified his role in the team.

"He is not an official assistant coach, he's been given an opportunity to get a deeper understanding of football and help in terms of empowering himself academically," Johnson said.

"You can't just be an official coach only because you played the game, you need paperwork which will give you the right to be called a qualified coach."

When asked if Khenyeza will make any decisions, Johnson emphasised that he is part of the technical team but does not have powers of a qualified coach.

"He needs to learn and we are willing to give him everything to do so. He has proven to be a great leader hence we brought him back to the team. I can tell you the future looks bright for him," Johnson added.

"It's a good opportunity for him to learn in a big team like AmaZulu. The bottom line is for Mabhuti to empower himself through education and that is what we are planning to achieve with him."
