Chippa United coach Clinton Larsen has set his side a target of reaching 35 points at the end of the season, which would guarantee them another campaign in the top flight.
Larsen has collected four points in his first two matches as Chilli Boys, after he replaced Joel Masutha in January. They are currently second from bottom on 16 points, 19 away from the target set by Larsen.
“I’ve done a simple calculation, that when I took over, there were 13 games left. I targeted that in every three games we should get five points. We want to get 35 points, which means you are knocking on the top eight. We will take it one game at a time. We already got four points from two games,” Larsen said after his side’s 1-1 draw against Baroka FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
Chippa will next take on fellow strugglers Free State Stars, who are a spot below the Chilli Boys, at Goble Park on Saturday (18h00). These are the games, according to Larsen, that Chippa cannot afford to miss out on collecting points.
“The important thing for us is to pick up points against our neighbours at the bottom. We did it against Maritzburg, we did it against Baroka and we need to do it against Free State Stars.
“Those are the teams at the bottom and if we, like I said, keep putting points on the board, we’ll get out of the situation easily.”
