Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says they and Wydad Casablanca have become buddies, considering how many times they’ve played each other in the last two years.
Sundowns will meet the Moroccan club for a fourth time since 2017, when they meet at Lucas Moripe Stadium this evening (21h00).
Wydad knocked Sundowns in the 2017 quarterfinals via a penalty shootout, on their way to being crowned African champions. Last year, during the group stages, the sides drew 1-1 at Lucas Moripe Stadium and Wydad were 1-0 winners when they hosted Mosimane’s men in Casablanca.
“We are buddies. Every time we play this team,” Mosimane said.
“They know how to win matches, they know how to get results. They know how to get a point, they stole a point from us last year. We did a big mistake last time we played here. It was 1-0 you remember? They reversed the results there. It was 1-1 and we lost the game on penalties. They are smart.
“They are not going to come and show that they can beat us. You know how to get a point,it's done. You know when you go there [Casablanca], they put 70 000 people. That’s where the stress and pressure come on us and referees. It's difficult, but we also make it difficult here for them.”
