AmaZulu and Highlands Park played to a goalless draw in an Absa Premiership clash on Saturday evening.
Usuthu were off to a positive start in the earlier minutes, with Nhlanhla Vilakazi going close through a header from outside the box which narrowly missed the target.
Minutes after, a short cross from Emiliano Tade led to a low cross into the box which forced the defence into a snap defensive clearance as Usuthu upped the tempo.
AmaZulu closed in again as good work from the left picked out captain Mbongeni Gumede at the far post, who failed to get his header on target from an impossible angle to miss.
Highlands clawed their way back into the game and were close to a break through with a free-kick from Mothobi Mvala, who returned from suspension, but the team's top scorer failed to hit the target.
The second half started off on a tentative note, with very little happening on either side in the way of goal-scoring opportunities.
The KwaZulu Natal outfit conjured up a decent half-hearted attempt on goal midway through the second stanza, as defender Thapelo Nyongo threatened to get the opener but his shot fell off target.
Despite the attacking changes, Usuthu were still unable to bypass the visitors who held a solid defensive line to keep the host away.
The Lions of the North seemed satisfied with the draw at this point, as they showed no real attacking impetus in the closing stages.
This spate of indifferent performances led to a disappointing goalless draw as the two sides cancel each other out.
