Thabo Senong announces 34-man Amajita squad for CAF Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations training camp

Leicester City winger Khanya Leshabela has been called up to the South Africa U-20 squad by head coach Thabo Senong as one of seven overseas-based players.

Leshabela, 19, caps off a remarkable week in which he penned his first professional contract with the Premier League side to earn a call-up alongside six other players based in Europe.

Defender Bradley Cross of Schalke U-18s, Tashreeq Matthews from FC Utrecht II, Kabomelo Kodisang of Portuguese outfit Sanjoanense, Sphephelo Sithole and Buhle Damane of Vitoria FC and Lyle Foster who joined AS Monaco this month are all part of the competitive squad who are set to join a local camp between 14–19 January.

The 34-man squad will be trimmed down to 21 players before they jet off to Senegal for their final friendly fixture before U-20 Afcon in Niger next month.

"This camp will also serve as a perfect opportunity of laying a tactical base of getting our players to understand what will be expected of them when we arrive in Niger," Senong enthused before stating their targets of a last-four requirement to qualify for U20 FIFA World Cup in Poland later this year.

"Our goal is to see this team reach the semi-final stages of this competition. However, we do not want our players to be stressing about such.

"Our goal is to make sure that they enjoy every single match they compete it. That state of mind always leads to positive results being produced on the field."
